I do not agree with illegal offroading nor do I agree with illegal walking.
I used to work in the Peak District for the National Park. That woman had a very bigoted view against 4x4 and pro walkers. Walkers don't cause erosion, 4 x4 s do. Walkers are legal, 4x4 are illegal type of attitude. Try a party of 150 off route cutting across hayfields as they had got 'lost' Financial loss to farmer? Erosion in Grindsbrook? That is an area where 4x4 can not reach so what causes erosion? Ramblers feet? Now try the Pennine way either side of the Snake Pass? It used to be a peat bog, which 4x4 could not readily cross. It was a quagmire for about 100 metres either side of the road. The then head warden liked it that way as it kept casual walkers off the moors. Now been flagged at great expense so walkers do not get their boots dirty. Now have a look at how much money the PDNP spends on upkeep of green lanes compared to upkeep of footpaths! Brendan |

Battle axe said...."People feel very very passionate about the English countryside & they don't think it should be a play ground for motor vehicles that should stay on the roads"
At least she's leaving us alone in Wales!! |

I do drive on roads. Some roads are sealed surface roads some are non sealed surface roads. Non sealed surface roads are legal vehicle highways sometimes referred to as green lanes. Brendan |

It's a similar argument with mountain bikes. They (or we, as I am one of them) are allowed to use bridle paths but not foot paths but walkers complain that they're using footpaths so they ought to be banned completely. Surely the problem is that people are breaking the already existing laws/rules, not that more rules ought to be introduced? Introducing new rules will only affect those already following the rules, not those causing the problems who will ignore them.

And since the NERC or what ever they called it half the greenlaneing are now impassable for everyone.
If it wasn't for that set whinging all the time it wouldn't have been. Still shot themselves in the foot because now they can't get there either... They can try climbing through brambles and brush. |

Thought it was quite a balanced piece and the lady did no favours to her cause when she was quite happy to be seen as intolerant to others.
