Tyre Life - Continentals
I figure several of you folks will be using the Continental Cross-Contact AT tyres so thought this a good place to ask.

Last June I put a set of new take-off tyres of the aforementioned Continentals (in 235/85/R16 flavour) onto my Defender. Since then I have done 22,500 miles and the tyres are wearing a tad fast for my liking. They all started at 13mm, the front pair are now at 4mm and 5mm, and the rears both at 5mm so not far off being worn out. The driving is primarily country roads, but there's a fair bit of forest road (unmetalled stone unsealed), motorways, and light off-roading (green laning).

At this rate I'll probably need to change them again at the end of the summer and I'm not sure 1 set of tyres every 12-15 months is particuarly good so might consider going for something harder wearing instead (BFG AT is the first thought). Would be a shame if I had to as other than the wear I have been very pleased with the performance of the Continentals.

How do others fair with these tyres, am I expecting too much?

not sure if it helps too much but purely road use I would be expecting +60k miles from them from my experience.

36k before I sold my last 90. Tyres looked good at point of sale, I reckon at least another 10k.

Sounds like I'm definitely doing something wrong then, what pressures are you all running them at? Mine do seem to be wearing more in the middle of the tread than the edges, but I've only got them at 28 front and 30 rear, so hardly excessive I would say.

Or maybe it's the forest roads that are doing it, they are pretty hard on tyres.

Mine are down to 12mm after 9500 miles [They are 14mm when brand new] .. so by that ratio to get to 5mm should be around the 43,000 mile mark Smile

Pressure - I run mine at 30 fr and 38 rr Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant.

On a 90, LR stipulate 30 Front, 38 Rear. An engine to TDi for!

Where do you fine that information? My book is blank for both 7.50 and 235.

I've been running my 7.50s at 34PSI / 38PSI (110) which seems about right, went to check the farm one yesterday which was at 44/50 which made me wince a bit. I presume there's a reason they're that high but it would explain why it feels so hard.
