Coating under wheel arches to reduce noise
Is there anything that can be sprayed on to the underneath of the wheel arches to stop the road noise and the stone noise?

My searchings haven't come up with anything definite. I'd bought some cheap "bitumastic underseal" but then had second thoughts before I applied it. Would a layer of "stone chip" covered in some sort of underseal help? Are all stone chips the same? Should I just slap on lots of layers of bitumastic underseal?

I've already got the steel bits covered in Dinitrol.

Black Autotek stonechip paint, ideally put on before Dinitrol.

What about cleaning area really well, then sticking Dynamatt under there?

I'd thought about that, but I'd never be able to seal it round the edges and I think it might end up as a muck-trap. It's also got ledges and stuff under there, and it's not smooth everywhere so I think it would be a challenge to get it to stick. I will be putting rubber matting or something in the inside once I've decided exactly what I want.

I'd be happier with something spray on like custom90steve has suggested.

Your be better off doing the inside of arches as stonechip will flake off in big lumps and hold moisture behind it

Yeah, I didn't touch the plastic arches but the metalwork I did.
It has to be absolutely clean though.
Mine now has the grey factory stonechip. Autotek black stonechip on top of that and then finally Dinitrol.
Basically now I never get bangs from stones and I'm running KM2 MTR's which can throw some.
All adds to general soundproofing anyway, I did do the front plastic in stonechip however it has never came of at all.
This is what I used:

Quite cheap really.

Thumbs Up

On Thursday I gave my wheel arches what I thought was a good clean up.
Yesterday (Saturday) I took it in to the workshop, took the wheels off and found there were lots of areas I'd missed Rolling Eyes Laughing so I got the airline out and sorted the job properly. I have to say I'm glad I waxed it before I'd really taken it off road, the amount of mud that's under there now is amazing.

Cleaned, wire brushed, blown down again, degreased and blown down and then it was ready for paint. There was some factory stuff under there but it was really ropey. Some areas had a thick layer, some areas has nothing. Round the reinforcing bars, on the "shadow" side there was a sort of overhang.
Anyway, I used three cans, put on 4 coats leaving the recommended 15 minutes between coats. Made sure I did a thin coat one way and then a thin coat the other way so as not to miss anything. It went on well, I got a splitting headache and then I left it overnight.

It doesn't seem to have made a huge amount of difference.

Our Unimog has a thick layer of bubbly flexible paint under the cab and I was expecting that I think. What I've got just looks like a layer of paint. Oh well! At some point I'll clean it down again and put the last can on, seeing as I've got it.

After reading some advice on some forums I ended up using Rhinoliner sprayed in the rear wheel arches. In retrospect I should have sprayed more under the rear of the 110 but I wanted to save some money and cut it back a bit. Anyway, it made a pretty big difference especially with the gravel flicking up. I also ended up using some foam matting underneath the rubber mats. Importantly the wife is now happy!

You need to use it pretty thick to serve its purpose.
