'Most Stolen and Recovered'
Surely most people with Defenders already know we are far away from 'safe?' I wonder what contributed to the 'Most Recovered' bit? Tracking device? Abandonment? Tip Off Raids? Be better if it was a bit more detailed perhaps? Can you post the link? Here's an almost identical list, figures from Tracker based on cars fitted with a tracker device giving details of the most stolen and recovered from 2012. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/pictur...-cars.html If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! I should have posted the link - sorry but I don't know where I got it from now - so makes the info pretty useless

Given the selection is almost entirely brands where owners would make the effort to fit tracker, it does make you wonder at the 'potential' benefits of having one fitted. Arguably the best data would be for example (my numbers): 700 E class Mercs stolen 350 Recovered 307 of the Recovered vehicles had tracker 1 in 3 stolen E Class Mercs were fitted with tracker Tracker accounted for the actual recovery of 298 of 307 Mercs Etc etc But Tracker probably wouldn't release that in case the data proved you had just as high a chance of recovery without one as with, unless the stats were wholly in Tracker's favour, I.e. 80, 90, 95% recovery... Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

For the relative small outlay it's a 'no brainer' with reported Defender theft/attempts of theft. Irrespective of whether the data is in Tracker's favour or not you still obviously have a much higher percentage of recovery 'with' rather than 'without.' Also with a Thatcham approved one you get an insurance discount with some providers too.
True.....Here are some figures...... "Indeed 95 per cent of stolen cars fitted with Tracker are returned to their owners and 86 percent of these are recovered within 24 hours." looking at the news in my inbox this morning, it looks like it was a story from research by vehicle recovery service Tracker.

Most likely....If you have a good 'track record' (excuse the pun) and can provide an excellent service, why not sing it from the rooftops and get some good free publicity?

I would! Many of the 'extras' I have sourced are either no longer available or were damn hard to source in the first place. Everything in life is on loan but this is a loaner I would rather retain for a while longer. It also depends on the circumstances surrounding the theft too, if it was lifted to be broken for spares and recovered intact or perhaps stolen for a ram raid or 'ragged rotten' it would be a different story.
Just to state "I wouldn't want it back if it was stolen" doesn't really make much sense to me. Fitting a tracker does! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

I understand all points of view on the topic of wanting a stolen car back or not.
I do take security of my Defender very seriously indeed and it is always locked away at night. I've sold cars in the past after being broken into as didn't feel the same about them afterwards. It's just how I feel about having a car back that has been taken by someone I'd rather not have been in my car. |
