LOL, I know what you mean, but I did have some strong words with myself, as I was going to get an elderly Disco 2 V8 or a P38 RR and use it as a cheap shoot bus.
Trouble is, I REALLY have a passion for the Defender and want to do another project, with some even better mods than last time. It's going to be awesome. 2016 D4 HSE 1998 110 TUM HS FFR Hard Top XD WOLF 1982 Series 3 SWB Petrol |

Assuming that when I view my vehicle on the 14th, it is all OK and I complete the transaction, I already have a list of mods I will be doing to it.
Unlike my last project where the mods spanned a couple of years to get 'the look' I was after, I am going to do them all at once in about 2 months Some will be done by the people who sell the bits, some will be done by me, as I love working on them. I am still undecided as to which alloys and tyres to get. Love the rugged look of the STT and the KM2, but wonder how much additional noise they make over an AT pattern like the BFG and ST Maxx. I will be going off road (on shoots) and although the Range Rover has never got totally stuck, I want to lower the chances of getting stuck in the Defender (that would just be embarrassing!) Most of all I want the stance of the car to look meaty, mean, planted. Anyone got any suggestions? I've read the Definitive Wheel and Tyre thread, all 28 pages, still don't know! Also not sure if I should go with 285 or 265 tyres. The car is an XS 7 seater, though I will probably remove the rear 2 to make more space for dogs etc. The next 2 weeks are going to be hellish! 2016 D4 HSE 1998 110 TUM HS FFR Hard Top XD WOLF 1982 Series 3 SWB Petrol |

My choice would be 255/85 KM2 MT. They are very quiet ( certainly not the loudest thing in my Defender) and perform well in mud and off road. They are not too aggressive so don't look OTT.
The size gives an inch or so more clearance under the diffs, and worth it when following down rutted tracks that would ground you out on the smaller tyres. They are also not too wide and help get a good purchase though the mud to solid ground underneath. Cheers Simon Ps I would go for ZU wheels, easy to clean and get access to brakes to hose down. |

Simon,
Is there any issues on stock suspension with rubbing with the taller profile tyres? 2016 D4 HSE 1998 110 TUM HS FFR Hard Top XD WOLF 1982 Series 3 SWB Petrol |

No problems, I have std suspension and carry around 150kg of kit/drawers in the back. All good. If anything, the weight lowers the car a bit, and still no issues with tyre rubbing.
I'm using the original Freestyle alloys, no spacers etc. I guess if you went for more offset then it could be an issue. cheers simon Some photos: Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge |

Very nice...like the wheels. I'd be inclined to keep those, with some tyres as above..
Good luck with the mods, will follow with interest. cheers simon |

Agree with Couplands. It looks a tidy unmolested blank canvas. Enjoy.....let the spending begin!
I too will be interested in it's development! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |
