Alko stabiliser hitch
A question for the tin tenters among you.

I have an alko stabiliser hitch on my caravan. My defender has a standard tow set up with a Dixon bate ball and pin hitch, bolted through the lowest holes.

The problem I have hitching up, is the lever for the stabiliser fouls on the spare tyre (cross contact). This prevents my from hitching up as the pads are too far out. I have to remove the spare wheel and jobs a good'un.

I'm wanting to put a mud terrain on the spare, does anyone have this?
What are my other options? I suppose a swing away usually sits higher?

Thanks
Simon

I used to hitch up my caravan with the back door open and when hitched up and the lever handle down then shut the door. Some people take off the handle and put a shorter one on or just fit it to hitch up when needed.

Alko sell an adaptor which gets round this problem.

You have to remove the red handle which gives more space between stabiliser and spare wheel. You then use adaptor to engage the stabiliser.

Hope this helps Thumbs Up

Thank you both for the replies. I will try hitching up with the door open first. Why i never thought to try that, im not really sure. If that does not work for whatever reason I will have a look for an adaptor as you suggest amondeggs.

A shock link shifts the tow ball about 2" outwards which helps

A swingaway wheel carrier shifts the spare wheel to the offside which helps.

We have removed the red handle. It is slightly awkward to fasten the handle down without the extra leverage but a size 9 sorts that problem out.

I use a Dixon Bate adjustable hitch with an Akho towball bolted on with a 1/2" drop plate used as a packing piece.
