Bought some bits from a member on here which were sent to me via My Hermes. The parcel arrived yesterday and what a mess!
The sender seemed to have gone to quite considerable care to ensure the bits (bumperettes) were carefully packaged in cardboard and sealed up in a box. However this is the state in which My Hermes delivered the parcel to work: Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Box was damp/wet and subsequently falling apart. Obvious signs it had been dragged around the floor and bashed. Parts hanging out of the sides of the box with obvious paint damage. Sadly I was not available to sign for the parcel myself or would have confronted the courier! Fortunately due to the ruggedness of the bumperettes damage is only to the powder coating (although quite extensive) so can be rectified with a bit of paint. Dread to think what the part would have been like if it was breakable though! I would advise people to avoid using them. This is not the first issue I have had with them either, they regually seem to miss parcel collections and leave parcels in stupid ('safe') places. They (Hermes) are cheap for a reason - they pay very little to their (self employed) "delivery agents", so there is no incentive for them to look after parcels or deliver on time. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

John it is indeed your intercooler. As stated I did try to protect it as far as practical even going as far as using two short lengths of downpipe guttering to protect the inlet/outlet pipes. It is insured so let me know we'll both get our money back.

Hermes are the only ones that can never find my address. Last order they took it back to depot so had to travel 30miles to pick it up. When I saw the box it was damaged beyond repair with loads of tape to try and keep it together. They denied responsibility and in doing so experienced "Karma" as I'd ordered some BB pellets and when they went to pick it up off the floor the box emptied 10,000 of il luminous degrading wet pellets all over their office carpet

Have just had a first Hermes experience.
I ordered one of those karcher chassis cleaner things from Amazon and it was delivered by Hermes. I received an email from Amazon that morning telling me my parcel would be returned to amazon depot as the box was badly damaged. I contacted Amazon and they said they'd send a replacement, were very sorry blah blah, would send a replacement, and would use the info when reviewing their contract with Hermes. I was surprised to receive a knock at the door later that day with someone with my orginal washer from Amazon ( the one that was supposedly on its way back to Amazon). In some ways I was glad Hermes did attempt to deliver it as I was able to see firsthand how bad it was. the box was split at the seams, bashed about, a boot print on the underneath of the box, scuffs and scrapes on the sides and a half baked attempt to stick it all back together again with brown parcel tape, despite parts of the product sticking out of the also damaged karcher box. In general it looked like some lard arse had sat on it, and then played a game of football with it. I could have done less damage to it if I'd kicked it from Peterborough to my house! Needless to say I refused to accept delivery. The replacement turned up delivered by Royal Mail and in perfect condition. |

Seems to be common theme, see here
Likes of Amazon/ebay encourages the use of cheapest possible couriers. IF you want to send items out get a quote from Big Dave/MD Couriers We have tried the cheaper couriers and now stick to UPS/TNT Yes they cost a little bit more but in comparison the little bit extra it costs us outweighs in general the hassle of the 'cheaper' couriers and the expense of the redelivery charges. Yes sometimes the likes of UPS/TNT do cock up as well but a lot less frequently. Today delivery via UKMail, they were just dumping items outside our unit. They had an item for next door unit. Did not want a signature to confirm delivery! Brendan |

Fedx are not better I received a large item from Flat dog this morning which had been pulled open at the top big holes punched through the sides. The driver then proceeded to drag it out of the van, he did not like it when I told him he was about to cause damage to £600.00 pounds with of goods he went , we then lifted it out of the van. He then handed me two other parcels one of which he said had fallen out of the big one. Yes it would have when he open it, he thought it was a large bed. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to us off. Richard |

No disrespect to the OP or the personh who sent the parcel, but that to my mind is not sufficently well packed for any courier service nowadays.
I now always tape all round the box at each end and the centre in all directions, I pack the contents so all sharp bits are protected, and there's effectively no movement in any direction in the box. I reinforce the box internally with offcuts of thick cardboard etc as required. If necesasry I protect the corners. I have used MyHermes several times, and none of the recipients has ever complained of damage. My personal view is that in the cut-throat world of parcels delivery all the firms proved a generally shocking service, totally focussed on the sender (who clearly pays them) and not the recipient, who doesn't appear to matter at all in their eyes. The only way to ensure that your goods will survive is to pack them to withstand a determined and prolonged attempt to annihilate them. I really don't think that MyHermes is any worse than any of the others, and they are very inexpensive compared to most. |
