brake union advise please
I am currently at the early stage of rebuilding my 1992 200tdi swb Defender on to a Marsland chassis which is a slightly modified TD5 chassis. I am fitting two complete axles from a 1996 Discovery. This will give me the option of anti roll bars and rear disc brakes. So this has raised a couple of questions I cant answer, the first is:- Is it worth fitting the anti roll bars considering I didn't have them before? The second is:- What size and type are the brake pipe fittings i.e. metric 7/16ths, I have no idea. Any/all advise would be useful to me.

Yes, anti-roll bars in my opinion are a worthwhile investment and do help with the handling. I have them fitted on both my Defenders. Rear disk brakes are also a good investment I have always thought that disk brakes provide a distinct advantage over drums and brake shoes in wet weather braking. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

The brake pipe will be 3/16". Brake unions should be 3/8" on early models and 10mm after that although I don't know when the change was implemented. The fittings on my donor axles (1996 Disco) were definitely metric.

All Defenders/90/110/127/130 are metric brake line fittings. Discos used imperial up to about 1994 I think.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

I suppose that if the calipers have metric fittings I can continue making the rest in metric. Would the master cylinder be metric or are they all imperial ?

I have just changed my axles to discovery ones, found to calipers where the same on the front axles! Just different pads which was handy as the donor axles had a leak caliper. New axles alot quieter.
