Soundproof/Insulate quick advice?
Hi,
My new Defender arrives next week. ( 110 USW)

Im keen to start in the loadspace with something to improve sound deadening and protect side panels from moving loads.

Reading the net leaves me a bit confused??

Do I need sound deadening pads first?...then insulation?..then carpet/rubber?

Is Dynamat ( or similar) a one hit solution?

Do I need to cover every square inch of bare metal?

Is it a different solution on Floor? sides?and roof?


Any help or experience welcomed. I want to do it myself and I want to do a "good" job without going completely over the top.

Most of us use a combination of NoiceKiller, Dynamat & Carpet.

On the rear tub, I have NK under the carpet. Behind all the side panels I have Dynamat.

Not done anything behind the roof lining yet.

I have TGE panels as well because mine's a USW

Very happy with the result. Can have a normal conversation at 65mph Thumbs Up

Also a Nakatenanga loadspace mat to keep the carpet clean Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

You don't 'need' to cover everything, but we do.

We use 'Dynamat' or 'Skinz' dependant on the clients preference / budget (I personally can't tell the difference when driving in a vehicle between them) - These are a foil sheet with a 'bitumen' type black sticky backing, it is this that is applied to the bare metal (be sure to degrease the metal first)

We then apply a layer of 6mm neoprene, again from either manufacturer to all floor areas and rear seatbox / barrel sides / van sides (which we then carpet)
