Huge Fuel leak
Hi folks,

My 110 has just decided to chuck fuel out all over the road, at a tremendous rate and been dragged off to the dealers on the back of a recovery truck. Only occurred when the engine was running and fuel was literally pouring out from under the mid/rear of the engine. Nothing visible up top or down side of engine....lost 30-40 litres in a few miles....running didn't seem effected though?

It was booked into dealer anyway as I thought it had just started sounding noisier and more rattly recently...2012 with 21k.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Mine's got a slight leak from the fuel pressure regulator on the back of the injector manifold that I haven't managed to cure. There's the valve itself, an adaptor piece that screws into that, then a plastic clip on fitting for the pipe on the back of that.

Maybe coming from around there somewhere? Pete

Could be the fuel cooler, or the fuel pipes where the cooler was if it's a 2.2. This is attached to the chassis at the rear of the engine and are prone to damage. Craig Rogers

if you can get one, an entreq fuel cooler guard is the answer, it would fully protect the oil filter and fuel cooler

Maybe just one of the speed clips has popped off? Doesn't normally happen but it might not been on fully? Craig Rogers

Am I correct in thinking the rectangular module with several hoses coming off it is the fuel cooler? I can see why the guard could be a good idea....that looks very vulnerable.

Hopefully its just a clip like you suggest!

That's right, that's the cooler.

However as yours is a 2.2, you might not have the cooler, just the pipes as they removed it at some point on the 2.2. The pipes are still vulnerable.

Here's the d44 guard fitted to protect them without a cooler.

The reason of my thinking it's these pipes is that it's the return to the tank, therefore a leak here probably won't affect the engine. Craig Rogers
