I used a bolt close to bottom corner of windscreen but inside the bonnet - if you have a meter, best to check for low resistance (should be less than 0.3 Ohms) between the bolt you fix to and say engine block
There is also a LR used ground point in the engine bay on bulkhead but can be awkward to get to |

I earthed mine to the radiator bracket bolts, gave the area a clean up first and then treated with ACF50 to keep corrosion at bay. 2005 Td5 90 XS

Did you attach these from underneath or above? I'm still yet to install mine so would be handy to know. 2005 TD5 90 CSW XS

Took the grille off, then it's easy. Only thing is the ring is too small for the bolt, so I had to enlarge the ring a bit, it's easy as made of thin and soft metal. Took my time but spent most of my week end installing the loom properly (or so I hope), I've taken pictures and will try to post them here if you're interested. |

Not wanting to add another joint into the cable that might introduce resistance however small, so would need somewhere within reach of the original length of cable, and yes pictures would be great thank you. 2005 TD5 90 CSW XS

OK, here is what I've done on mine.
I was not pleased with the main feed wire being unprotected, especially running so close to hot and moving parts, so I purchased 2 meters of 10mm convoluted sleeving for automotive. Removed the fuse and took the terminal out as advised by ttuck3r, so I could pass it through the 10mm sleeve, then sealed it using a bit of heat shrink sleeve. Removed both headlights, plastic grille and the front grille entirely (4 small screws on the top, 1 bolt on each side). From the hole where the left headlight was found, I pushed the main feed wire through the left wing and then pulled it from behind (keep in mind mine is LHD, so expect it to be different on yours). Click image to enlarge From the engine bay and underneath the car, ran the main feed to the battery box under the seat, attaching it to the existing loom. Removed an unused gromet, drilled it (was thick!) and passed the sleeve through, but did not connect it to the battery yet. Click image to enlarge Attached the relays to a bracket behind the headlight, underneath the wing so it won't get any water. Connected the original plug to the new loom on the left side. Ran the loom to the other side through the holes in the wings, just behind the grille. I had to move the yellow soft protection further back so that the ceramic part could through the hole. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge I don't think I could run it on top of the radiator like PCA42 did, mine didn't look long enough to reach the other headlight. Click image to enlarge Then pulled the plug from the inside. Click image to enlarge Attached the earth rings on each side to the bolts holding the crossbrace behind the front grille. The rings were too small for the bolts so I had to enlarge it using a rat-tail file (easy, as made of thin and soft metal). Checked the resistance using a meter as advised by kmac. Click image to enlarge Then at last, put the fuse back, connect to the battery, test both low and high beam, and put things back together. Also, if you've not done yet, make sure to check PCA42's description here as well http://www.defender2.net/forum/post366921.html#366921 |

Thank you for posting your picturs, they were a great help.
Click image to enlarge In the end I earthed it to the top bolt in this picture, you need two 10mm sockets or spanners and I think this is a good enough earthing point. Click image to enlarge And ran the cable from one head light to the other like this, tucked it under the lip looks as if it was made to be there 2005 TD5 90 CSW XS |
