Not updated this in a while.
Back in late April/May the Defender spent a few weeks at Duckworth Land Rover Mkt Rasen while it had the power steering box replaced under warranty after it sprang a leak. I had two lovely Disco 4s as courtesy cars, which were awesome, different to the defender, but awesome in their own way. Well since the steering box was replaced the defender spent a few months in storage while I was working overseas. My latest acquisition is a set of five boost alloys complete with conti cross contact tyres. These were bought from fellow forum member LR90andy. Unfortunately I still haven't received the alloy wheel nuts I ordered over eBay to enable me to fit these. grrrrrr After some oik snapped off the top of my aerial The other week I bought one of the hirshman/ nakatanenga aerials from Leeds (4x4 over lander) It was a breeze to fit, the only difficulty was removing the old aerial due to lack of space thanks to the positioning of the abs unit. In order to remove the standard alpine (cde-130) head unit I had to buy a set of removal keys. I had heard a rumour that pioneer ones worked, and indeed they do . Click image to enlarge |

Fitted a boomslang headlight loom to be defender this afternoon.
Driving this evening, the difference is quite startling, the lights (standard bulbs and lenses) are much whiter thank before. The spread of light is the same, it's just a whiter light rather than the previous yellow light. Hopefully the switches should last too. I'm considering fitting a pair of osram night breakers or something similar. The only modification I made was to fit a length of flexible conduit to the live feed from the batter to the relays too. I can't for the live of me think why it's not supplied with any protection to this wire, especially since it's a permanent live feed. The two relays are fixed to the bracket that supports the little reservoir for the PAS system. The only hiccup is that the two unbranded el cheappo Chinese relays were both duds A bit disappointing that the loom was supplied with unbranded nasty cheap relays, decent ones aren't exactly mega expensive! iLuckily I had two proper Bosch 30A relays in the garage and these did the trick. I swapped he 40A blade fuse from the battery for a 30 A one too. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge |
