I just noticed mine is smashed...is this a big a hassle to repair as in the td5? Thanks

Depends which part is broken.
If it looks a bit like this; Click image to enlarge Then all you need to do is purchase a new complete one, pull the missing bit off and glue it back on. If you need to change the whole washer, then it's much more difficult than before, as you have to remove the Puma dash. Alternative washer jets have been mentioned a few times over the last few weeks. I'm waiting for bits to arrive to convert mine. Have never replaced one but have often wondered if it can be done through the hole that the ash tray sits in (pre Puma). 2005 Td5 90 XS

I did see the alternative options, this is the third time I lost mine, the other two times they were confirmed crushed and not just separated. It was too dark to inspect it and I really didn't know this was an option.
I will check it out tonight. |

If it's the black plastic jet like the pic then you don't have to remove the whole dash. My Indy removed the dash fascia and got at the washer hose and locknut that way. I was expecting a dash out job too!

I thought this could be done by removing the centre console with the radio etc but there are two metal air vents in the way so i reckon it's the whole dash out and you all know what a big job that is. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

Driving to work this morning and pressed the wash wipe, washer jet flew off anyway just had a look and mine is exactly the same as in your picture x-isle, will get one ordered today and get the glue out. |

I haven't attempted this myself (though I have now had the Puma dash out several times) but I would have thought that you could get at the inside of the washer jet on a Puma without actually removing the dash if you free the dash off completely and pull it away from the bulkhead. You can change the wiper wheelboxes using this approach, so the jet could probably also be done.
It is still not a job for the faint-hearted, but it only takes a few minutes to free off the dash. |

I've done this mod on my 300, granted it's much easier to remove the dash on that than on a puma, it only took half an hour and job done, the difference is amazing and so much better, who'd have thought that such a simple mod would make driving on a wet motorway so much easier. You get the water exactly where you need it, in the path of the blades. In regards to the puma, Wonder if it would be worth bypassing the pipes before they go into the bulkhead and perhaps reroute them to pass behind the bonnet and straight to the wiper blades? |

I did think about rerouting, but quite like the fact that the pipes go behind the dash as the heat from the windscreen heater duct can help defrost the pipes a little quicker. However, saying that, the amount of exposed pipe outside will still freeze up. I'm guessing this is maybe why Peugeot stopped this design after the 405 and 605. I wonder if is it feasble to remove the heater coil from an off-the-shelf heated nozzle (eg the RR type) and fit it into a standard LR Defender nozzle. There's certainly room in the nozzle moulding for a coil.
What I really want is a heated Defender nozzle, because if anything's going to freeze it will be the nozzle first. For a warm/hot screenwash, I can't see any reason why something like a TD5 fuel cooler couldn't be used as a washer fluid heater - connect the cooling hoses as normal and run the washer fluid through the fuel passage. It is a simple heat exchanger, after all. |
