Thanks stanley
Agree. If you want to take a Defender in this direction US ICON is probably as good as it gets. Personally I like what they do, their upgrade quality ethos + design choices look well considered. You clearly need a few $ in your account to hire these guys... but look at the result, i'd be very happy with that in my drive way. SKIP https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic83242.html |

Saw this in the flesh at the SEMA show in Vegas, it is an awesome piece of kit and very nicely put together, I would be incredibly surprised if Nene were involved.

Very very nice. Bit rich that a member of the U.S. 'automotive' industry is preaching about build quality. I would like to know how many Wranglers were perfect from the factory and from all generations how many are still going? If he was German I might agree.... But, on the flip side you canot fault his particular attention to detail. Exceptional detailing throughout. Door handles, vents, everything. Off-set light surround?.....brilliant. Not a fan of the landing lights, although I do like the gun-metal grill. Love the new dash. Could have gone two ways, more modern or less modern, so the double dial and simplified vent/tray section is perfect. Also like the side-mounted ladder. Neat design touch. One gripe would be if you spend that much time as well as dollars on a rebuild, it is a shame the seats weren't addressed. Not by replacing with Recaros etc, as the cabin has been kept 'stripped down' but just some quality upgraded internals, and improved leather, with subtle but high quality stitching. Not Khan-esque, just improving on the original as they have done with the remainder of the build. Finally, love the engine. Still dreaming of shoving a V8 in lieu of the 2.2. Maybe with the U.S. ability to meet their stringent emissions yet still have thumping grunt (and noise) a GM Powerplant or similar might be the way to go. In a beast that handles as badly as a Defender, flexibility from a modern, European V8 would be missing the point. A large, angry US engine such as found in F350s etc, would be fab. And then I could drive my Defender in Paris (and maybe London in the near future?). All in all, great job ICON US. Far better than the football stuff ICON UK churn out.... Damn Yankees. This was a bitch, that was a bitch, Defenders arent symmetrical blah blah blah. You know, everytime i watch one of these defender build vids where they try to get everything done to a surgical level of detail, i think they miss the point of what the Defender is all about.
If you want something with Rolex build tolerances to polish every sunday buy a Porsche. If you want something rough, tough and easily repaired buy a Defender, then just shut the **** up and DRIVE it... |

There are a few touches I like but others I don't. Hiding the winch away so you can only see the lever to engage/disengage is a daft idea unless it's for show and never to be used.
Like the twin swing out system on the rear. Like the door handles. Who was the UK supplier of the secure bonnet hinges? 110 D250 SE HT 110 USW SOLD RRE HSE Dynamic Gone, wife killed it VOLVO XC60 R Dynamic with some toys Polaris RZR 900XP SOLD |
