Trailer indication light illuminating when inductors are use
Hi guys,

This is more of an annoyance than a problem but your help would be appreciated.

When indicating left or right, the green trailer indication light comes on on the dash for a second or two and goes out.

Any idea why?

As said more of me wondering why, if it's supposed to etc than a problem.

Let's you fit LED lights, or keep incandescent regular lights.
Stops the ingle flash but still works with trailer connected as it should.
Got mine last week, works a treat!

I fitted a BoltOnBits set of LED lights to mine and the set came with a new flasher unit, but after fitting the rate of flash seemed very slow, I called them but they just said "it's within tolerance - so it's legal, but we're working on a new version that will flash quicker because we've had a few calls now!"

Custom90steve - does yours work without the trailer light and flash at a decent rate? If so they might have sorted it.

Works without the trailer light yes, flash rate seems just a tad slower but nothing to complain about at all.
I prefer it actually.
By this I mean a very very slight difference.

It's worth bearing in mind the voltage difference on setting the relay varies which also has an affect.
12v with ignition or 14v with engine running.
I set mine at first with ignition then found when the engine was running the trailer light started coming on where with the ignition it didn't.
So, as you'll be indicating with the engine running whilst driving I'd advise setting it with the engine running.
It should be set so the trailer light is just turned off, so very small increments of movement on the adjustment knob.
Iirc clockwise will bring the light on and anticlockwise off.

Is the RDX relay a WIPAC relay with an RDX badge stuck on, as they look identical, RDX says it has all its electrics specially made for them but I am not sure that is true as to have small items specially made by a component factory you have to order ten of thousands and RDX markets are not that big!

Reason for bringing it up is the WIPAC one is less then half the price!

It seems to work OK with LED and incandent lights and has the little knurled control knob exactly in the same place as the RDX one has, its just worrying that RDX seems to have just stuck a stuck label on the side of the relay where as if it was specially made for them it would have the RDX logo either printed on or embossed in the plastic.

I found flash looked slow with the rdx , yes still within flash rate regulation but I thought it looked like a old mini bi metal flasher rate bit old fashioned looking , so changed back to one ive used for years

The lights themselves have RDX imprinted on them like others, same with the LUX NAS lights too.

See if you can buy an LED relay from Simon at MPS trading, he's a sponsor on here. I bought a set of Wipac LEDs from him and they came with a relay that has a small knob to adjust the flash rate.

Much better than the RDX unit I had on my previous Defender with RDX LEDs. 2015 90 XS CSW TDCi - Beautiful
