Could well be. Hopefully it will focus not so much on the industry who 'conned' people, more the buyers who fell for it. Interestingly I do not consider myself to have bought a diesel but a 'Defender'. I would still buy a petrol instead. Whilst looking to upgrade our other car I did hours of research and most proves that running costs, cleanliness, performance and now MPG in petrol cars remain as good if not better than their Diesel equivalents. The original issue with petrol was mileage and running costs. So you bought diesel of you were budget minded, but petrol if you wanted speed and cleanliness. Now a petrol engine is cheaper to run, to fuel and goes as far why would anyone buy diesel? I looked at an A4 Allroad and the was negligible difference in costs between the two over a lifetime, petrol was faster, more responsive and cleaner. And if you had a turbo/cooler etc problem on 100k with a diesel it could wipe out any apparent benefits, not to mention the annual service if you don't meet the mileage requirements for diesels self cleaning properties. Not sure why it was pushed by Governement or manufacturers, but loads fell for it.
New DPF anyone? Che-Ching.... Monsieur Le Grenadier
