Horn
Hi,

It's a good while since I was last on here!

Defender failed it's MOT due to the horn not working (nothing, not even a squeak!).

I've searched past threads and can confirm:

1. It's not the fuse - both interior lights and headlight flasher are ok.
2. There is power to the switch.
3. If you press the key fob with the doors open, the horn sounds (seems to be from the nearside)

Questions:

Its has two horns, one in each wing? Which one is the low note?

Does the alarm have a separate sounder?

I can't remove the headlights (due to LED indicator and sidelights being fitted from behind) is the easiest way through the inner wing?

Any help gratefully appreciated.

The vehicle is a late 2011 2.4TDCi.

You will have two horns of different pitches, one by each headlamp (the little grill by each headlamp is directly in front of the horn). These are the ones which (should) sound when you beep the stalk switch.

The alarm will either have its own horn or a battery-backed sounder (BBUS), these are located in the vicinity of the n/s headlamp. Whichever of these you have should sound at the same time as the normal horns if the alarm is activated.

It sounds as though both your main horns have failed, or you have a power issue.

Access to the horns is going to be really difficult if you can't remove the headlights, I'm afraid.

Try separate power source to the horns, they fail regularly and are cheap to replace, Jeff

Do you know where the earth point is located? I wonder if that is my problem given that both horns have packed up at the same time.

plug C1266-3 pin 3 ground for horn / plug C1264-3 pin 3 ground for horn

and earth header
