Ok,
I hope I will not boring you guys with the pics of the trip but I hope you will enjoy it. We arrive in Punta Arenas in Feb 1st in the morning after a 4 hrs fligth from Santiago. A short trip compared with the return that took almost 1 month. At the 1st day we set the rig (including a foldable trailer) for the adventure and make some shopping in Punta Arenas (food and other stuff) so nothing to report. At the 2nd day we meet with other friends to took the southern road that you can take in the South America continent quite near to the San Isidro Ligthhouse, only 24 km from the end of the continent Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Next day we meet with the rest of the LR group in the ferry in route to Tierra del Fuego. In total more than 20 LRs and one Mercedes Click image to enlarge We head to an isolate place called "Aldea Tierra del Fuego". The road was a 4x4 track with several wadings but the place were really stunning with a nice view to the Darwin mountains. We arrive late to the meeting but happy to help a friend as the LR spirit said Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Next day to Caleta Maria. Did you remember the Top Gear Special when the guys take a ferry to a beach? This is the place... Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge And then, heading to Puerto natales the same picture that we took 4 years ago Click image to enlarge Allways the landscapes in Patagonia surprise us Click image to enlarge After a stop over in Puerto Natales to sleep and get some provison we head to Torres del Paine to stop in a very nice camp Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Next day with winds over the 100 km/h we head to the main sites of the park Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Eduardo MY 2007 110 SW PUMA 2.4: Big Fog of 64' MY 1994 Jayco 1207 Folding camper: "El Tremendo" Click image to enlarge |

Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Guanacos all over the road Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Next morning one of the atonishing view of the towers that I ever seen Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge After that heading to Calafate Next day the tour en force to see Perito Moreno Glaciar with a good look to see a huge ice fall Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge The height of the ice wall is almost 70 mts After sleeping in nice cabins in Calafate we heading north trough RN40 In the road we rescue a little car that falling down from the RN40. Fortunately nobody was hurt and we were able to winch then again in to the road. Click image to enlarge we heading again to Chile trhough Paso Roballos a quite isolated and harsh pass but wit stunning views Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge We stop in a nice camp in Patagonia Conservation project but with a very unpolite camp administrator. Click image to enlarge When we arrive quite late in the nigth we ask in the administration and the person indicate us the road to the camp and that we can put our tents in any place. When we arrive we found all the cars parked near to the tents in a nice grass land. So we heads up and put our tents and our stuff in a nice shelter. That was on Friday nigth no one showing up on saturday and sunday to take out the garbage or see if everything is OK. Suddendly on Monday when we are preparing for pack up a very unpolite employer appear indicating that we must to move our car 300 mt to the supposed parking place because was not allowed to put it in the grass. I apologize and indicate that were not any sign or park rule sign indicating that we cannot do that. he start to scream and argument in a very unpolite way that in any camp site the cars cannot be park in the grass. I apologize again and ask that will be clear if a sign will be put in the parking or a chain will be put in the entrance to avoid any confusion. My suggestion was take very bad. So we paking up as fast as possible and leave the camp Eduardo MY 2007 110 SW PUMA 2.4: Big Fog of 64' MY 1994 Jayco 1207 Folding camper: "El Tremendo" Click image to enlarge |

Click image to enlarge To remember the power of the nature. The avalanche of ashes and rocks due a Volcano eruption 5 years ago Click image to enlarge But the forest can be recovered Click image to enlarge Finally the trips ends with a 30 hrs non stop trip to cover almost 1300 km from Yelcho to Santiago. Taking in the first part a ferry to reach Puerto Montt Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge In summary probably 5000 km in 27 days with 7 inside the Defender. The car only with minor glitches (ligth relay support scorched but solver overray it) and the trailer OK but need some reinforcment in the electrical wiring at the end. I hope that this pictures not boring you and can show a little bit of the beauty of Chile. Cheers! Eduardo, nothing boring about these pictures. Just amazingly beautiful nature and setting. Looks a fantastic group of Land Rovers and people.
To understand the scope of what you covered, I looked it quickly up on google maps (Punta Arenas up to Lago Yelcho, Santiago), impressive, shortest distance (which you obviously did not take) is almost 3000km. I have never been further South than Rosario, Argentina, but one day..... Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |
