I should be picking up a new (to me) Defender on Saturday which has a winch but no remote.
The winch is a Warn 9.5ti and I think I want a remote like this one: http://www.devon4x4.com/index.php?page=sho...;Itemid=14 I know it's a long shot, but has anyone got a spare remote lying around they want to get rid of? I don't mind well used so long as it works and isn't completely smashed I don't know if any other Warn/non Warn remotes work, so if you have an opinion on the subject feel free to chime in. TIA |

You will need a 5 pin remote, these are harder to find than the 3 pin ones, I converted my Warn 9500 to work with a 3 pin remote by grounding 2 wires. The 3 pin remotes are a lot more common. the extra 2 pins are a switched ground to the solenoids as a safety in case there is a problem with the live switch circuit. All the old winches were wired this way with only a switched live. 90 300 TDI SW (sold)

Why not fit wireless? Ease of use is far better.

I could do, but if I did I'd just build it myself as the parts are far cheaper than a Warn one.
There are a few other things I'm considering remote control for so I could just build them all in to one little box of awesomeness. But there's something nice about a proper cable, and the light that tells you how hot it is sounds neat. |

I have wired mine to a remote switch in the cab, much more useful. I still have the remote, but rarely use it.
A wireless remote would be the other option, and gives more flexibility when doing self recovery. Cheers Simon |
