Strange Noise
Over the summer I had a strange noise at 2000 rpm, I thought it was the usual turbo gasket or hose problem. It sounded like someone making a whistle with a bus ticket.
What's got me stumped is that as the colder weather has arrived the noise has gone. It appears to be sensitive to the ambient air temperature.
Any ideas? It's a MY14 2.2 Puma.

Thanks....

Sounds to me like the bolts holding the front branch of the exhaust manifold to the head have slackened off, and the gasket is vibrating. Happens about once a year on mine, I just retighten the bolts and wait for the next time.

Sounds like mine did when the turbo gasket failed.

It's a very similar noise, just not as loud. When it gets warmer and starts to do it again I'll have a look at the manifold. If it's the turbo gasket I may wait until it gets worse so the stealers can actually hear it. Or should I get a proper job done? Whistle

The manifold may have warped slightly which is causing the gasket to vibrate, Thumbs Up 2016 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 TDV8

If it's the gasket, due to the warping turbo flange, it is very hard to spot, as the side it warps worse due to thinner metal is the hidden side. Mine was obvious the second time as the inside of the heat shield was black with soot.

I would advise getting surfaces machined flat. Just fitting thicker washer, or new turbo is only delaying the job.

Worth taking the heat shield off, having a look and checking everything is tight first.

sorry for my english, i hope you will understand Wink

the problem was the metall-gasket between the exhaust manifold and the pipe to the egr-valve.
our landy got an new engine, the landrrover garage fixes the bold between the pipe and the cylinder head first and then the bolds between the exhaust manifold and the pipe.
So the pipe tilt and the gasket leaks because the seal faces got not close together.

Excellent. problem solved!

At least we were all just about right, identifying either the manifold gasket or the turbo gasket! Thumbs Up

the "triangle gasket" does not exist at the 2.2 Euro5, manifold and turbo are mounted "naked" withaout any gasket. Wink

Thanks guys, as soon as I can get off these crutches I'll have a good look at things. At least I have starting point.
