I use navfree. Works great in The Netherlands. I didn't test it in the UK. And it free so easy to test. And works offline too. Roel

I use Navigon on iPad and iPhone, and think it's great. Cost money but you get what you pay for. It's postcode to all of Europe and has many nice features.

Native Maps on my iPhone 6 or iPad Mini, both of which I use in the awesome RAM Mount system...
Apple's native Maps App has improved beyond recognition now and has never let me down yet... And is perfect with Postcodes too... Rog... The GREEN One... MY2016 Urban Truck Build Thread - http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic40548....al[/color] |

I use an iPad mini (with cellular for the GPS) on a Brodit pro clip. Looks good and is very stable. Also good for tunes to the stereo.
I use the inbuilt Apple navigation for anything on the road. Never let me down, integrates with Siri - works a treat. Postcodes work fine. I don't know what the spoken instructions are like as I have them on perm-mute. I use the View Ranger App for anything away from tarmac. You just download O/S maps in your preferred scale. Not the cheapest way to do it, but it is slick and works and its a nice big screen. |

Software-wise, I have found nothing comes close to AutoRoute with it's ability to plan a route or amend on the fly to avoid certain places or routes. It will also give you turn by turn directions.
The biggest issue I have with standard setups is the screen size and the ability to see the whole route or several route options and decide for yourself which is the best way you want to go. |

Absolutely satisfied with the free Waze app on an iPhone / iPad. the only problem is when you want to navigate abroad, as that will probably be an expensive exercise. Doesn't work offline.
Experimenting with Gaia on an iPad to see if I can use it for roadtrips. Maps are impressively detailed but take too much space when you want to download the maps. Only the Netherlands alone need over 64GB and therefore doesn't fit on my iPad. Other app I'm looking into is Memory Map. We'll see what works best for my next trip abroad. |

Give Nav free a try.
On a Apple device you might need multiple apps if you want more countries for free on an andriod system you can download multiple countries for free. They did not forget in 2008. I guess the fixed Garmin mount for the SVX is still available as accessory from LR, and pretty sure that on the base mount you just can click-fix a cradle for the present generation Garmin Nüvis. You won't have the sound coming via a dedicated behind the dash speaker like with my SVX, but todays Garmin cradles have a built in speaker... Only thing you have to get from LR is the base mount plus the behind the dash stabilizing plate (I believe there is one), connect todays generation Nüvi power cable behind the dash, and then you plug a new generation Nüvi with its dedicated cradle onto the ball of the fixed base mount, connect the power cable, and you're off. The size of that ball has never changed through the years, so new cradles should fit without problem. (the Garmin cradle for my wife's recent Nüvi 3590LMT fits onto that mount ball). This Garmin mount from LR is almost totally vibration free, very very stable. You really have to find a very very bad road to have a slight vibration. That is the cleanest solution I think which suits the Defender dash very well, and Joanna Lumley would sound as if sitting in the middle seat.
