Well, good to hear you're not all too downhearted on the Defender front
Actually, still a bit far, but looking to go for a Protrax training day at Rockingham when the weather warms up - most likely early June. And Couplands may join too - not that he needs the training, more of a solidarity move I think so I don't have to go alone Unless you find it too basic of an off-roading proposition, will drop you a line once we fix the date. May actually put a thread in at some point so maybe more Def2net fellow members can join us... Had the call last thing Friday from the stealers. They think they've cracked it. So as I was watching the kids Saturday, thought I'd take the opportunity to get out the house and collect it.
Kids were excited, getting the Defender back, and whole collection of Land Rover's to climb in and out of (although not sure the sales staff were so impressed) and best of all Land Rover biscuits Click image to enlarge They think they've stopped it. The floor mats are nice and dry now, and they've been round and added silicone (properly this time) wherever they think there's a weak point. All we need now is some rain to test it I've got to confess after 3 weeks in a Discovery 4, I was expecting to find jumping back into the Defender a little unpleasant, but it was just like putting on your favourite slippers 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone 2002 - Black Discovery II - Gone 2014 - Montalcino Red 110 XS SW Last edited by Rosco on 1st Aug 2017 12:32pm. Ok, so not much has happened of late mainly due to it having spent a lot of time at the stealers sorting the leak into the footwells. We'll happily it's been a good 6 weeks since the last soggy experience so I've done a couple of jobs I've been putting off.
First up was a Brodit mount for the phone, especially as I'm being all modern and using it as my sat nag as well. Can't recommend it enough This afternoon whilst baby sitting the nipper (apparently it's not baby sitting according to SWMBO, just parenting but what would she know ) I started vaccing out the now dry footwells, one thing led to another and I found myself fitting a bit more dynamat Click image to enlarge I know understand why people strip all the interior out before fitting this stuff I now just need to find some more time to crack on getting the rest of it done, and fit the scenelite to the back. 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone 2002 - Black Discovery II - Gone 2014 - Montalcino Red 110 XS SW Last edited by Rosco on 1st Aug 2017 12:33pm. With hindsight, it's probably good you haven't done all the soundproofing straight away - at least you sorted the leakage first.
Quite a multi-tasker - looking after the little one and laying dynamat at the same time Btw, those contrast seats are such a nice detail MY15 Aintree 110 SW - for sale - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic82781.html MY16 Santorini 90 HT - sold |

I have no idea what they were thinking when they did that
To be fair they bent over backwards trying to sort the issue, door seals, bulkhead seal, windscreen seal. They finally did track it to the door seals which they replaced (again) and fitted with a thin bead of silicone. Done properly this time and you barely notice it's been done. It did however reveal a secondary leak coming in through the heater box intake. I tend to back onto the drive which leaves the car slightly angled nose up, so whenever we get a good downpour the water was getting past a seal. Common fault apparently, so new seal and another bead of silicone and all sorted. 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone 2002 - Black Discovery II - Gone 2014 - Montalcino Red 110 XS SW |

was it the heater box against the bulkhead or the connection to the air intake valve see
http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic47380.html did they put the silicone where the mastic was or in the v channel of the seall itself? mine leaks out of the bottom of the seal near front door post! |

They say they've replaced the inner seal and the bead of silicone is along the join circled below (apologies for the "borrowed" photo, I'll try and get one of mine later)

It's my 600th post so thought I'd mark it by uploading the previously promised picture of the "sealed" heater box
Click image to enlarge Having looked a little closer when taking this picture there are a couple of gaps in the silicone, so I'll get it topped up when it's back there next. Also a quick shot of the Brodit mount in action. Click image to enlarge Works great with my phone as a sat nav, in just the right position to be clearly seen, but not obtrusive of the view of the road. She does seem to be developing a pronounced hiccup around 1500-1750rpm, and a bit of a transmission shunt moving between 4th and 5th. Not sure if it's just me or actually an issue. Either way I've spoken to the stealers to make them aware, but agreed we'll let them develop a little more. Other than that rolled over 19k on Friday. 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone 2002 - Black Discovery II - Gone 2014 - Montalcino Red 110 XS SW Last edited by Rosco on 1st Aug 2017 12:35pm.
