[img]Hi Guys,
Can someone please point me in the direction of (or offer assistance) to track down what the rear wiring in my 110 all does? I need an ignition live and the one I have plugged into (unused green female bullet) seems to go off after about 5 seconds which is not what I want. What color wire am I looking for? How can I find out what wire I have plugged into? Thanks in advance [/img] Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197 Self confessed mileage hunter Last edited by shaggydog on 17th Jan 2015 4:23pm. Can anybody shed some light on this?
I can't figure out what's happening here. I have plugged into a Female connector that has both Green and Green Brown wires coming out the other side which SHOULD indicate that its a ignition live. However when I turn the ignition on it powers up for a short period of time then turns off. What am I doing wrong? is it just the wrong wire or am I missing something? On a vehicle of that age, all the wires in the chassis harness come through the wheelbox into the vehicle, behind the RH rear lamp cover, and are terminated in bullets in snap connectors.
There's a sub-harness that connects into the bullet snap connectors, which goes down back out of the wheelbox, across the back of the vehicle, and up through the LH wheelbox, behind the LH rear lamp cover, for all of the N/S rear lights. Reversing lights and rear fog lamp connections are available at both sides of the rear of the vehicle - which makes 'doubling-up' the reversing and fog lamps very easy. If both the Green/Brown and Green wires are coming out of the same snap connector - then, they're both on the reversing lights circuit. The 4-way snap connectors, like this - are all one circuit. . Thanks for that Paul
So, if I cut the green wire out of the connector would that work or is the green wire just connected to the reversing light switch? Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197 Self confessed mileage hunter |

So, are the Green and Green/Brown wires coming from the same snap connector (I couldn't really make it out from the picture)

Well, I'm a dumbass
Despite looking once, twice, three times i have plugged it into the reversing light circuit as both wires are green brown. Click image to enlarge Lesson learned: don't do wiring projects in the dark after work! Still searching for a solid green wire and I have found this one in this connector, can I use it or is it a trigger wire (ie not always on when ignition on?) They are both the same colour - that makes sense
The way these bullet/snap connections are done, is that - one wire is the incoming feed, the other(s) are out to the lamps. The solid Green wire in the 4-way connector, is the ignition-switched live for the rear wiper motor. As long as you aren't adding a heavy load to it, you should be OK to use it. . Thank you for the confirmation
Its not a high load at all, only a signal wire so shouldn't notice it. I never use the rear wiper anyway so should run little risk of overloading the system. Thank you for your help, very much appreciated Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197 Self confessed mileage hunter |

You could always put a small 20mm in-line fuse in your tap off to make sure you don't ever lose the wipers. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!
Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |
