Well after 75,000K's the box in my SVX has spat 6th gear. It appears to be a chipped tooth, none of the other 5 gears are affected.
Ive dropped the oil for a look and didnt find any metal filings on the magnetec drain plug or any silver in the oil. Actually the oil was clean and in good order, it was only changed 10,000k's ago. So the questions are - 1/ Do I rebuild the PUMA box and if so Ive heard that there are difficulties in doing this ? 2/ Will the Ford Ranger 3.2L MT85 bolt in ? What if any modifaction would need to be done ? Thanks in advnance |

Hi Martin,
Thanks for your reply. Do you or any others know if the bell housing bolts/clutch ect of the 3.2 match the the 2.4 ? Additionally, was the out put shaft of the PUMA MT82 changed to suit LR transfer case or the TC changed to suit the MT82 ? Thanks in advance for any info. |

I believe that the bellhousing is the same, but there are others here who'll know for sure.
There is an (infamous) adaptor shaft fixed to the standard Ford output shaft, and a bespoke extension housing which physically attaches the standard Ford box to a standard LR transfer box. |

So if I have my original PUMA box as a doner, will I need this adaptor or between the two boxes will I be right ?

The bolt pattern does match yes but the only difference is 2 bigger bearings I spat the 3.2 gearbox out behind my 3.2
And now have defender gears in it and tbh I think there stronger ? 3.2 gearboxes are like hens teeth I stick another std 2.4 box back in in my opinion Steve 2015 2.2 tdci hardtop xs 3.2 conversion DONE 238bhp and 707nm torque and thats just the start ;-P hybrid turbo in build -done ready to fit ashcroft atb in transfer box 6 speed auto in build |

Hey Steve,
Here in Aus the 3.2 box (Ford Ranger) are readily available. What was required to match up the transfer case. Being that I have the busted PUMA box as a parts donner, will I have all the available bits I need ? Will the prop shafts length need to be modified ? Appreciate you advice. |

You will have all the bits all you need to do is swap the back end over with a few other mods
But as I said I have ripped 3 gears apart in the 3.2 box and replaced with them with te defender parts and it's had been fine since and that's got 240hp running through it ? 2015 2.2 tdci hardtop xs 3.2 conversion DONE 238bhp and 707nm torque and thats just the start ;-P hybrid turbo in build -done ready to fit ashcroft atb in transfer box 6 speed auto in build |

Thanks Steve,
Realy unsure what to do. I've blown 6th after just 75,000k's. A replacement PUMA box just seem like more if the same. |
