Morning Gents,
I hope you all had a good Xmas ? I took delivery of my new 90XS exactly a week ago and have now covered just over 500 happy miles BUT...... I have a couple of "concerns" with the radio. I had the audio upgrade which incs the Subwoofer but it seems to vibrate a lot despite turning the sub setting down to 1 or 0 and also lowering the bass to 2 or 3. I'm hopefully (optimistically) going to have a look today as things have been a tad busy here although i do have to try and sort out a non working boiler which was Ho Ho Ho fun over Xmas first My other "concern" is the bluetooth works making or receiving calls but the mic doesn't and so i can hear the other person talking but they can't hear me. I was thinking its probaly not connected to the head unit which i was expecting popped out with two 2 pronged radio removal tools except it doesn't seem to have the holes. Is the surround covering them and how does this come off if indeed this is the problem, again, does anyone have any suggestions please ?? I am a little disappointed that a £30k motor has such niggles and despite the obvious "its a LR" and "character" comments heard in the past i don't think that its on. Thanks, Mark |

Hi Mark
I had the same issue when I got my silver 110, turned out the microphone hadn't been plugged into the head unit properly after a bit of messing about I decided to leave it to the dealer to sort out. Have a look at your subwoofer. There is a piece of plastic inside the bottom of the subwoofer that may not have been removed as it should've been. If you feel along the bottom edge of the S.W., you may feel a bit of plastic sheet. Unpeel it & your "vibration" will largely disappear.

Thanks everyone for the advice (and Beach Boys clip) and just to say that i've arranged to pop into to a dealers tomorrow morning as i agree i shouldn't have to mess about with it and/or potentially damage or scratch something to see, as suspected if it is the mic not plugged in to the head unit or loose, or more embarrassingly that i've been doing something wrong which may very well be the case as i'm not 14 and so don't do technology very well or that i am now officailly old and don't read a manual very well (or at all/much) either.
I'll also have a look at the sub tomorrow to see if its the sticky paper as Pickles suggests before i go as i've been busy with the now working (although frigged but needing a new directional valve) boiler today and i can at least live with a vibrating sub but a freezing cold house, now thats another story !!. Whilst at the dealers i may also ask if the noisy wiper motor/linkage is normal or am i expecting too much from a £30k vehicle ?? Apart from these few issues i love being back in a Defender (from a Disco 2) again and hopefully the stack of new bits scattered around the house and garage will start to get fitted. I fetted the Overfinch wheels on Friday and am thinking they were a good choice. Thanks once again all, Mark |

Good, make sure you check for that bit of plastic on the inside edge of the subwoofer.
I already had mine booked into the Dealer's to be fixed when I was told of the "bit of plastic", I think by a member of this forum! Subsequently I peeled it off & SW worked fine,..well as well as it can, given the boundaries of the system, & the Defender interior. Pickles. |

The mic not plugged in properly seems common - mine had it too. (The radio bezel levers off and then things are obvious - easiest after taking off the removable face-plate.) Cheers, Guy.

Yes it appears that the man on the line doing that particular job isn't, and worse still, the Q.C. man isn't doing his job of checking either !!!!
Anyway, it was connected and i'm pleased to say it now works as it should. The noisy wipers need further investigation so its booked in for 1 - 2 days next Thurs (8th) when they'll also check the rear panel which looks like it caught the rr x member when the body was lowered onto the chassis. The steering wheel is out of centre but they wouldn't check the tracking (and i'm kicking myself) as i'd fitted my Overfinch wheels which are "non std" so its on with the boosts before Thurs despite my arguments that the wheels wouldn't alter the tracking or steering wheel alignment, or would they ?? I don't know if its me or as i get older i'm less tolerant or expect more but why are things never simple ?? |

Its not you, the majority of people try to do the bear minimum, have the 'that will do' attitude. its your fault for buying something that they cant afford. and no as long as the wheels are straight and fitted correctly, it should not alter the tracking, but it gives them an excuse to pass the buck !!! Modern day attitude again |

Jim, trouble is those 'slapdash' types are the ones that usually get the jobs due to having a big mouth.
Sometimes company overheads also cause it by pushing timescales come what may. |

Despite people not doing what they're supposed to for whatever reasons there should be processes in place to make sure it firstly gets built correctly, then it should be checked and finally if there is a problem a containment put in place while the process is corrected.
Its really just basic stuff to address and poor show on LR who obviously have a problem judging by the number of people who have had the same issue which got fixed by the dealer under warranty which LR pay them "handsomely" for. I think LR are really negligent as all warranty data is fed back to them and they obviously haven't done anything about it which means adds to their cost, and who ultimately pays for this ?? Yep, us, the customer !!!! I feel an e mail coming on to someone at LR soon If not already, i fear i'm turning into a grumpy old man !! |

They have systems, which have failed at all levels. the final one would be the PDI that the dealer obviously meticulously undertook |

Yes you're right, and there in lies another problem as i bought it 200 miles away as no one more local could beat or even match the price and although not in so many words they really didn't wanna deal with it as i wasn't one of their customers !!
I'm hoping modern Defender ownership is going to settle down soon !! |
