Hi
Bought a set of front mudflaps to fit on my DC...because I like the looks of it and I noticed that friends who have them have considerably less s**t to clean underneath the chassis than me, after greenlaning! ![]() But when I ordered them, they came without fixings. The guy at the shops thought that I was buying to replace them...So he sold me the bolts...only. I thought that the chassis would have some nut welded inside in order to fit the bolts... But it doesn't ![]() Now, the bolt nearest to the engine I can fit a nut and tighten it...But on the hole nearer to the outside I can't reach there, in order to fit a nut ![]() How do I fit the mudflaps then? They're usually attached with rivnuts (mine were anyway). When I changed mine I didn't have any rivnuts to hand so I used a long ring spanner and held the nut inside it with some chewing gum, fed it along the outrigger until it was in place then screwed the bolt up. A bit fiddly (to say the least) but doable.

thanks guys...maybe rivets is the way... I'm not a very handy guy and I don't see myself using a ring spanner and chewing gum to fit a nut...I'll be there the entire afternoon and won't make it!

If he's assuming that you're just replacing existing mud flaps, then he will have assumed that there will be rivnuts already in your chassis, hence the reason for the bolts..? An engine to TDi for!

Would it be possible to take the sill off (I think it's only a couple of bolts) the get a spanner in from the outside of the out rigger or are they boxed off?

Good idea, but unfortunately they're boxed off ![]() "Land Rover- Proudly turning drivers into mechanics since 1948" ![]() |

What you need is a willing accomplice with small hands to get a bolt through from the inside of the outrigger. 2005 Td5 90 XS

I managed to fit my front mudflaps with stainless nuts & bolts, though the outer one was a bit of a pain as I had to lie under the 90 to get my forearm inside the outriggers.
So the best option is a slender-armed assistant or failing that rivnuts ![]() CONVOY for HEROES www.facebook.com/convoy4heroes www.lothian4x4response.org ------ Td5 90 Thread in 'My Defender' Forum |

Our new mudflap has arrived this morning from Duckworths (Thank you Dan).
Obviously this thread is now a couple of years old, so can I check and get a definative answer from the experts? Do we need to rivnut this flap to the chassis or just use nuts and bolts. Can anyone tell me regardless of which option we go for, what size nut we need? |

If there was a flap there that's come off, you'll probably find the bracket is still bolted on so just unbolt and replace.

Ok, so been out to look and yes there are 2 bolts there but no bracket. Need to hose off some mud that the pressure washer didn't take off after Imber and then try and get them undone
