Theiving Bast**ds
So over the last couple of weeks I have been enjoying the forum and reading all about Defender security. Guilty that I have not done anything and thinking I need to get my act together I have been planning the security layers and was about to place orders for a couple of items and fit a fuel cut of switch.

Awoke this morning to find that overnight some bunch of thieving ****** had broken into the barns. The came in across the fields, cut the locks into the barns and then again into the workshop, made off with a little tractor, trailer, quad and a load of power tools and Stihl equipment. Been adding it all up for insurance today and it's over £25k of kit.

They had planned it carefully and waited until a hard frost so they could get across the fields. We didn't hear a thing and the dogs didn't go off either. A very professional job. Just very thankful they didn't come into the house or do any major damage.

Unbelievably they left the Defender behind!

Now planning even more security measures for the house - more big gates with better locks and CCTV. But if the Censored want to get in again unfortunately no matter what I do I'm sure they will.

...and the security layers for the Defender are on order...

Very sad to hear you news, where are you?

I had a lot of gear stolen a few years ago, and it makes me sick to hear of another!
It also seems that whatever security you have in place they just seem to get around it!

Police told me to get better locks, the ones i had were good expensive ones and they just went through them as if they were made of butter,

I live in a area where we get a lot of hare coursing, farm thefts etc, and so paranoid of the 90 parked outside,
I have done all i can regarding security but if someone wants it, i know it will go!! Big Cry

Hope you get back on your feet soon!

Very sad news indeed.

We adopted two Rottweilers from the dog rescue. They seem to help our security profile quite nicely. - Andrew -

Evil or Very Mad
If you've got a workshop compressor, have you considered connecting an air horn to it as an alarm?
An air horn going off for a full tank of air is going to wake someone up Smile

Sorry to hear this news fella.
Censored all is safe these days.

I had a quad nicked out of my garage when i was in bed literally 4m away and didn't hear them
It was locked to a ground anchor and they must have gone through the lock with a battery grinder.

The only way to stop them is to guard it with a shot gun.

I hope they find the tw4ts and hang em

Hanging is too good for them.

You just feel violated and then get paranoid about everything. Shouldn't have to live like that, but unfortunately that's life.

Not even a visit from the Police. Just interested in filling their form out on the phone.

Too busy nicking motorists I suppose to catch any thieves.

Sorry to hear about your losses, I hate thieving scumbags.

I strongly believe the big problem in the UK are the politicians and the court systems. Now if the courts actually used punishments which were (a) a real punishment, (b) a real deterrent they would go a long way to actually cutting the crime rate in the UK.

Also we need an effective police force.

Maybe we should start lobbying the police and crime commisioners and would be Mps

I had it a long while back
We got broken in too and then they came back once they knew we had replaced things in a few months.
They even knocked the door to ask for a fake person just check if we were in.
I went fora couple of pints after work and came back and had been done again.
A sad time but you can't let them win.
I increased security. Put internal bolts on every door and had bars put on the downstairs rear windows.
My cars were never touched.
I then moved to Penarth Marina ( nice area ) and had both my cars broken into.
It's an odd world but one we have to live in.
I hope you get all your gear replaced and that you never have to put up with this again.
Regards
Steve

You have my sympathy, its not a nice feeling and it makes you paranoid afterwards. They tried twice in the last few weeks to get my defender.

Like other people have said, if there was actually a deterrent in this country ie prison was a disgusting Censored hole where you had to work hard 7 days a week instead of giving them playstations and thomas the tank engine duvets then maybe this thieving would stop. Instead we treat them like they are the victim Rolling Eyes

I think thats why plod are as much use as a chocolate fireguard because they know nothing happens if they do catch them.

And if the criminals address ends in "caravan" they definitley dont bother with them.

A few "mantraps" and some things wired to the mains me thinks Whistle 2003 Td5 90

Thanks for all the kind words.

Brendan, I too today have wondered why we have a Police Force. Is a burglary really not worth their time to attend? What am I actually paying for?

They will not come out for burglary, they don't come out for hare coursing or Censored ripping round the wheat fields or racing round the lanes.

They do get very interested when it comes to firearm renewal time or when I want a new foxing or deer rifle and I bet they would get super interested if the Censored who broke into the barns came into the house and nicked the guns - and it would be me who lost the firearms licence as a result.

And if I did catch the Censored in the act steeling my property and dared to threaten them with a gun, again, I bet it would be me who lost his licence and got punished.

Something is very wrong.

Still, it's the country we chose to live in. It does have it's good points.

Rant over.

Due to cuts in the Police force they are thinner on the ground than ever, thieves know this and of course take advantage. Evil or Very Mad
Seems to me rural areas that are hit most, rural people are obviously of lesser importance.
Same goes for the roads and so on too, if they call the present day "progress" into the modern age then it's delusional.
I feel like we're going backwards and not forwards.

I hope you get somewhere with your stolen items / claim.
Pity Smartwater wasn't involved? Or was it?

No Smartwater involved Steve, but seeing as the haul is highly likely to be on a caravan site somewhere and the Police will not go in there I doubt it would have been much good.

I'm saddened to read about the loss of so much kit to thieves - Bloomin' heck £25k worth of property 'walks' off your land and no wonder you are annoyed . However I'm bemused at yet another forum member clearly stating that they have dogs - but sadly they weren't up to the job of warning and deterrence.

At the countryside properties I visit the dogs detect strangers well before the humans do - that to me is the purpose of a 'working' dog?

Might be time to get a dog that is fit for purpose? Drove up to see a local cattle breeder the other week - told my son - "Do not open the Defender's door, until the boss appears - or the yard dog might literally devour you"!

Sad and sorry to hear the news
I'm sure you're well covered for the losses financially, but it's the emotional turmoil and the thought of who's done this to you that can eat away at you, but don't let it, worse things happen at sea and all that.
I'm in the process of finding a new property to live in, hopefully forever, most are remote to say the least, security is a thing high on my list of priorities, unfortunately we hardly see a police car around, nobody seems to patrol rural areas any more.
