The bowler ones are a lightweight alloy version more for looks than anything. I certainly wouldn't be keen on jacking them. I may ask them the question but I'd be surprised...

I was really keen on the Bowler ones until I saw a set in the flesh to discover the holes are just cut out and not punched like their front bumper

Hi Smudger,
I've got the bowler sills on and really love them. They are jackable in two places for sure with a hi-lift type adapter (though needs to be smaller diameter than the standard hi-lift bar) i was going to look in demon tweaks or similar for a suitable part. I personally wouldn't jack them from under the bottom edge but more through fear of cutting into the powder coat than bending or squashing them as such as they are pretty thick alloy but I'm a bit fussy re patina (like) versus damage (don't like). I mailed bowler when I was asking myself the same question as yourself and Jon was pretty clear his sills are a lightweight rally item and not for crashing down onto like the mantec type rock slider. I personally didn't need the steel girder style protection but did want something to protect my door bottoms from the odd more general misjudgement on greenlanes (not pay and play), from flicking up waffle boards inadvertantly and from supermarket car park knocks. Most importantly I wanted something that would (will) look alright with a few knocks and marks on when this happens rather than something that would begin to flake and rust etc. You can see the sills on a standard non bowlerised 90 in my gallery. I can see it getting expensive once you start with bowler because a) the parts are beautifully finished and with the bowler racing connection quite desirable in themselves, and b) have the kind of look that needs the full treatment so can see myself getting the bumper at least now and then the boosts will look out of place so next year wheels and so on... Cheers Joe |

Personally I'd go for Southdown Rocksliders, they have rubber insert/moulded finishers that mate to the wheelarches.
Much tidier than the Mantec crap (I have VERY low opinion of them given my experience of their spare wheel carrier). Mantec ones just end, Southdown ones blend in nicely! They just look right! Tip though, get them galvanised as the powder coating pealed on mine. I've had mine since 2000 btw. |

I thought Terrafirma bought out/bought the Southdown name
We have some of the original Southdown gear on our red 110. After what 10+ years the Southdown detachable tow plate on our red 110 could do with re galvanising. Am very happy with the tank guard. David basically gave up due to people ripping off his designs and selling inferior product copies on ebay. Brendan |
