Well, after a mere 4 months since selling my much loved Defender "Big Green"
![]() http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic8337.html .... and driving my Discovery 3, I've decided it's not for me and I need to get back behind the wheel of a Defender. I was looking for something cheap and cheerful (MOD 2.5NA, 300tdi) around the 5-6k mark and then running a small euro box on the side until Ian Baughan at www.irbdevelopments.com told me he was going go shift his White 90 that was going to be a project vehicle but he'd changed his mind. As a standard base vehicle it was at the very top end of my budget but still a good price and base to build a nice 90. After giving it some thought, and some tempting performance/customisation talk I think it's only right to give it some of the IRB magic wand ![]() - 2003 Build Defender Hard Top TD5 Chawton white -Galvanised chassis - IRB Developments uprated Intercooler & Silicon hoses - IRB Stage 2 remap - Turbo Boost box - Egr removal - Air intake Snow Cover - 2011 Tdci PUMA Bonnet (white) - Mud Stuff rear interior cargo net panels - Wing top/door sill Checker plate (satin black) - 2011 Puma XS 1/2 leather heated seats, steering wheel, cubby box - Java black Wheel arches - Java black roof - Gloss black SVX Sawtooth alloys - Goodyear Wrangler MT/R Mud terrains 235/85/16 - Hub centric wheel spacers - Scorpion Track GPS tracker - Scorpion Thatcham Cat 1 Alarm + immobiliser Currently waiting for the D3 to sell on Autotrader so I can pay the rest of the rebuild but at least the bonnet, performance kit, seats, wheels and tyres are paid for... ![]() The TD5 engine (circa 40k on the clock) is going in soon and the rest should just be bolting on and spraying up. I'll post some before & after pictures up here as the build progresses. As far a mods for the future go, I've got a Myway expedition trailer to pull so the NATO tow hitch will go back on, split charge relay... that's about it. Will try to keep this one as plain and accessory free as possible. Future mods will be a transfer box ratio change as I liked it on "Big green" and preferred it to the GKN overdrive too. Should be a nice job with IRB working on it and go pretty well too. Erm Zagato..... I only posted the link and NOT THE PICTURE so I don't have to see big green again! ![]() This build will pretty much cost the same as what I sold him for so K90 has to count and will be a keeper. Especially on the galv chassis. D3 auto is an absolute MACHINE but it lacks driving feel, manual control, character, well tuned td5 roar and doesn't get the heart racing. .....plus its so comfortable and quiet it lured me into 3 points and 60 fine... Damn motorway cruiser! |
