Battery selection
The original Delphi battery on my 2004 TD5 has given up the ghost and I need to replace it. I was thinking Optima red top but read a lot of good things on here about Odyssey.

I do not have a winch, or fridge etc so the battery is simply for starting.

If I go Odyssey, is it a 1500 or 1700?

And without getting the measuring tape out, will a 1700 fit without alteration to the battery terminals or compartment?

I fitted an Optima red top to a previous Landy and had no problems, but the Odyssey seems to have more capibility.

Any assistance or thoughts welcome, I will order tonight.

What's the point of spending three times the amount of the OEM one on an Odyssey when the OEM one does a good job and lasts?

The Odyssey has a high CCA for its capacity but it's not like you need to save every last inch of space in the battery box and if you accidentally leave your lights one then you may be thankful of the extra Ah you get out of the standard one.

Someone at work has just got a decent branded (I think it's a Varta, that what they usually supply and he said it had a 5 year warranty) battery for his TD5 from our local auto electrical place for £70 including VAT. Unless you've got some particularly good reason to have something else, that's what I'd do.

My 90 is running on a Optima yellow top. I have a winch and I use it too. The Optima is about 10 years old and has problems starting my 90 if it has been standing still 4 weeks or longer. Shorter periods not a problem yet. Roel
