I used this

As far as I'm aware it can be removed and the MIL light turned off if there's a problem. I started with nothing and still have most of it left! |

Loads of information if you search under EGR Blanking.....
I had a set of blanks as each vehicle can be different. Start with the largest hole and work your way down gradually over time until your MIL light illuminated then revert to the previous blank and leave it. Mine is still fitted after nearly 5 years. Do not know if this will be of any help but it seems that the UK/EU Defenders and the "Africa spec" Defenders have different "maps" regarding the EGR.
Where all UK forumites said they get MIL light when blanked solid or unplugged, none of our RSA members have had a MIL light when blanked with a solid plate and neither if it is unplugged at the grey plug. I've been running mine unplugged (which is effectively same as a "closed shut remap") for 5 months now with out any MIL light. Our one indie inserts a solid blank plate and none of his customers have ever had a MIL light? Just FYI...... |

I got one from EGR Delete on ebay.
No instructions, but it is obviously to fit between the Cooler and the valve, too small for the exhaust cooler side. 2 questions: What is the easiest way to get the bottom bolt off from the cooler to the EGR valve? Would it be best blocked up from the exhaust side to stop the cooler filling with crap? Any thoughts? Kevin |

The blank should go between the cooler and the EGR valve, the bottom bolt is accessible, just, from underneath. 10mm open ended.
I started with nothing and still have most of it left! |

Sorted!
Climbed on top of the engine, got the bottom bolt with a the ring end of short 10mm and a bang with a lump of wood to brake the hold. Plate in and no lights on on my 30 mile trip to work! |

You might find it will though after a few stop start cycles, depends on if you've chosen the one that's suitable or not.
In my book EGR = a waste of time, effort, money and it's useless and no good to the engine.and finally it's a pain in the ass for its MIL illuminating tactics and for getting stuck. |

I tested one of these blanks and whilst there is no MIL, the Ultragauge has a pending alarm for the Mass airflow.
I think the performance may be a bit worse and the economy hasn't changed significantly over 1 tank full. http://defender90xs.blogspot.co.uk/ |

Light on after 150 miles!

Will it go off if I take the blank out completely, or, is it a computer off job? Could I drill the hole abit bigger and put back putting the light off when right?  |

No surprises there then. Read my post above. That's the idea of starting with a blank with a large hole then gradually reducing. Your method is going to be work intensive and take a while for you to find the right size as every vehicle is different. You have a couple of options.... Take your blank out and after a few driving cycles the MIL light will automatically reset. Drill a larger hole in your blank and hope the MIL light will extinguish after a few driving cycles. If it doesn't take it out and drill a bigger one. Ideally you need to start with a blank with a big hole and gradually reduce as stated. You are welcome to a loan of the blanks I have but there is still one of the set fitted to mine that even with an EGR shut remap I will not remove in case I revert back to standard. It took weeks to find the ideal size blank as changes in air temperature/pressure will affect it too.
Drop me a 'pm' and I'll shove 'em in a jiffy bag and send them. I do want them back please as I have sent them to other forum members in the past. personally I'd suggest fitting between exhaust manifold and cooler is the easier place to fit - that's where fitted mine.

I removed the blanking plate yesterday and have done 50 miles. (less power than when blanked). will the engine management light go off by its self over time or will it need to go on a computer to be reset? (if it is may blanking that caused it)
Would a hawk eye be able to remove fault codes? |
