one classed as a car the other a van basically

when I brought mine classed as car you get high road tax but lower vat on the buying price so its a bit swings and roundabouts really

Surely the VAT is the same. There is no lower value VAT for commercial vehicles. It's 20% across the board??

not sure about now , but think it used to be a lower rate on private cars and always been full rate on commercials

Yep it's 20% VAT for cars and LCV's.

Can't comment on heavy weight Commercials as I don't deal in them at work.

I too pay the exorbitant £490 for my 2010 2.4 TDCi 90 Station Wagon. Sad I was recently informed that if mine had been 1st registered a month later than it was ie October 2010 I'd be on the lower tariff.....mental, it's not fair is it?
I'll still be paying it though as I love it to bits Laughing

Its not the date of first reg,, but the model year,,

Have a friend of such, with a Jan 11 reg 90,, He got a great deal buying new, but was a 2010 model, so pays the higher rate, the dealer would have been stuck with it otherwise, worked out at "free" tax for 5 years !! California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1

Gentlemen,considr yourshelves very lucky.
Here in Greece,it's 880 euros road tax and an additional 450-620 euros for "luxury living" tax while the wages and salaries have gone "down-under" here.. Sad Sad
