Today when I topped up the expansion tank with coolant I noticed that the coolant cap was a bit odd. The o-ring on the cap has nothing to seal against in the tank - see picture.
Also when I squeezed the top hose you could hear air escaping through the cap. I have not noticed this before and I have had the car now for a year and a half and I have topped up with coolant 3-4 times. Is it the wrong cap or is something missing in the tank? I guess the engine is running too cold if the cap is not tight? If it is wrong cap - what is the correct part No? My defender is TD5, MY 2004. TD5 and TDCi indeed share the same cap PCD100160

The colour of the cap is either yellow or black depending on the manufacturer. The one in the photo is not correct design. The part number is PCD100160.

Yellow normally signifies Britpart. Blue Bearmach.
Neither would be of much interest to me. |

I know that in Johannesburg you do not have to worry that much about cab heating but here in Sweden it is another matter
I have fitted electrical block heater, electrical and diesel cab heaters and maybe it was enough to replace radiator cap |

Might be worth giving your Heater Matrix a good flush through with a hose and checking your heater control cables are set up properly.

It hasn't been unknown for older caps seals to wither with age, and not form a seal around the top... I was thinking of cracked heads and allsorts due to overpressurizing etc etc. . So bought a new cap for about £6.00 - hundreds of miles have now been done, not even a dribble around the top! Job done! 2001 Td5 CSW (weekend and snow mobile) Plenty of lights, M/T tyres EGR delete, roofrack, swing away wheel carrier, snorkel.
