And now the stupid question from the Nooby
My heater blower switch is not knackered but takes a lot of fiddling with to change settings. Rather than spend £50 on a new one anyone see any reason why I cant wire up a Carling Off On On to do the same job. Only £10 and it will fill a hole in the dash that I've told the wife that I cant live without. Any suggestions on wire gauge. Be gentle with me Cheers Chris Cheers Chris 300tdi Defender 90 |

Hi Chris,
I assume it's a 300 TDI? I myself am unacquainted with the setup on a TDI but did find this that may be of assistance. http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=51594 If you replace with a Carling switch just make sure it has sufficient terminals for your purpose and it is rated at the correct current for your needs. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

The switch needs to be Off-On-On as you say.
On a Td5 the wiring to the fan is various sizes between 1.0 and 2.0mm^2! 2.0 for 12V supply to fan, 2.0 for "fast" ground path (to switch, Green/Grey), 1.0 for "slow" ground path (to switch, Green/Yellow), 1.5mm on ground to switch (Black). 1.5mm^2 would be fine, but use 2.0mm^2 if you wish 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

Another option is to replace the switch (and resistor) with a PWM Module, then you've got a stepless controller for the fan speed. Cheers, Vincent

Thanks for that,
Looks like a good option but I cant see the variable speed being much use. I either want it ticking over or on full chat. Cheers Chris 300tdi Defender 90 |

^ That module is rated 5 A without coolling, and 10 A when mounted on a cooling surface.
I have one (only recently) but I know of others who have one installed years ago - so it works and really is a nice mod!
