Td5 Cylinder Head
Just had this delivered as a supposed brand new AMC cylinder head.

Could someone confirm I should be rejecting this...

He's argued with me that its fine and even sent me a pic of another one from the same supplier with the same supposed machining hole.

Which hole is that ? and is there another dent on the 2nd picture, above the triangle bolt flange?
or maybe worth asking say Turner Engineering? 1999 Defender TD5 110

Its where the rear of the camshaft would sit.

Interestingly I've just found this picture online which also seems to show this machining hole

However yes, I've emailed AMC and Turners with pictures and asked their opinion. 2003 Defender 90 Td5 CSW Belize Green - "Betty"

All looks fine to me, the hole is to allow oil to drain away from the cam otherwise it would just pop the rear cam seal out

just had a reply of Turners

Dear Adam
Thank you for your e mail and attached photographs.

The cylinder head is exactly the same as the last 1000+ AMC cylinder heads we have sold. The red circle shows an oil return hole, pressure would build up without it. The ball bearings seal the fuel gallery and are peened into place. There appear to be one or two minor dings and dongs on the head that will not affect fit, function or purpose. The slight damage has most likely been acquired after unpacking. AMC heads are extremely diligently inspected prior to packing at the factory. Has the AMC packaging been opened/changed prior to delivery?
