So I'm not suggesting i'd want to use a blackberry phone instead of a laptop but for example i've just realised my vat return is late..... perhaps a month back I might have been able to do it there and then on my phone?
Clearly I'm not suggesting a BlackBerry is going replace a laptop but just trying understand what the limits of the phone are......my understanding is it can pretty much do it all in terms of completing vat returns on line, on line banking, opening / mod'ing word, excel docs etc. not sure how but believe i'll be able to print via wi-fi etc Would like to know your thoughts.....and no I don't want a I phone thanks. Cheers |

lorenzo90 - yes not looking to replace the laptop like you say but would be interested to know if its going to get me into websites ie inland revenue to do VAT.
shop on line, modify word docs, view pdf (idealy modify them too - like add notes) etc. cheers, |

I have a Blackberry Z10 which runs Blackberry 10 operating system, the same that's on the Passport (as far as I know) and I could do a VAT return on my phone if I wanted. I wouldn't want to, it's be too annoying trying to use the small screen but I could if needed.
But the problem with Blackberry is the total lack of available apps so you'll never utilise your phone is the same was you could one of the others. I've always had Blackberry's but when this phone contract runs out I'll probably get an Amazon Fire. Keep an eye on the tech TV adverts, none of them offer apps for Blackberry. |

AndyS,
fair comment. my only comment would be that the only app I have is a fitness / gps / tracking thing which works just fine. not into so apps so that's really not going to sell it for me / put me off. really want the phone to save me time rather than it become a waste of time. thanks for the comments all the same. |

I've always had Blackberry's so can't compare to the others but I will say that Blackberry are notorious for releasing software that either doesn't work or works a bit with a promise of an upgrade that either never comes or takes ages to arrive. For example, my Blackberry Playbook (tablet) sold with the promise of an upgrade to the operating system to Blackberry 10, it never happened so I'm left with a tablet that doesn't so much. Their desktop software stops working each time the device updates so you have to go back into the settings and switch back on 'connect to windows'. WTF they can't just leave it alone is beyond me. You can still swop things around with windows explorer and some digging but it's far from ideal.
I got my Z10 because it's cheap, £12 a month with some data, calls and free text, but I'm not sure it's worth it if it doesn't do the easy basic stuff. However, the browser is good, Twitter App does a better job on the phone than on the Playbook and in all, you can live with it. But, as I said, I've had enough of living with it while they sort themselves out and everyone else has a better product on offer. In the old days you'd have got a Blackberry because of the way in handled emails and had good security but the others have caught up on that so what does a Blackberry offer now? |
