Hi Everyone,
Does anyone know if there is an officially approved, as in it won't invalidate the warranty, a Co that does tuning and/or remaps ? I don't know if B.A.S. / Alive / Twisted to name but a few are approved or not, does anyone ?? Thanks, Mark |

Short answer.....No there isn't one!
Unless of course you buy a Bowler, Twisted or some other version mapped and tweaked that they themselves would honour the warranty. You either 'bite the bullet' and go for it or wait I'm afraid. Choice is down to you and of course your relationship with your dealer. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Having a remap does not simply invalidate your warranty!
The problems occur when, for example, a component within the power/drive train fails, as a result of excess torque being transmitted through it. This includes items such as the clutch and flywheel, gearbox, transfer box, prop shafts, differentials, half shafts and drive flanges. Another example is failure to to excess heat, such as a manifold face warping. In the event of a failure, you would have to pay for the repair, parts and labour, simple as that. You should be up front with your dealers, disclosing any non standard modifications to them, so they understand how they can best deal with your problem. If the dealers were to return a failed component to JLR for a warranty claim, which they do, they could tell if the component was over stressed and could easily refuse the claim, leaving the dealer out of pocket, and the cars owner in bother, with the potential of fraud charges! Any reputable tuning company will not do anything to damage a customers car, as it's no good for their reputation. A specialist tuner will understand how the vehicle works, where its limitations are, and how much they can safely wring out of the engine without causing problems. Take comfort in the fact we know our trade, and our reputations are a reflection of this knowledge and experience. On the flip side of this, parts for Defenders are pretty reasonable, so if you do break a half shaft or drive flange, it's not going to be an expensive fix. Regards, Gary. |

I believe bowlers map is approved and warranted by landrover but then you need a 2.2
Steve 2015 2.2 tdci hardtop xs 3.2 conversion DONE 238bhp and 707nm torque and thats just the start ;-P hybrid turbo in build -done ready to fit ashcroft atb in transfer box 6 speed auto in build |

Is that actually the case Steve? I expect they most likely have some kind of insurance cover instead.
I know it's big money, but then I've heard you get an additional ECU as well? I'll happily stand corrected on this one, as I'm not aware of it. |

Not so sure, I had this year two half shafts replaced by my dealer, nothing to do with stress from a map which I do not have, but replaced just because there was some play in them. Luckily still covered under the LR extended warranty, but I saw the dealer invoice for the parts and work which they sent to LR warranty, and that added up to the equivalent of a healthy £1.200,00... I believe that 2/3 of that was for the parts. Eric You never actually own a Defender. I had a clutch bill and some other things of nearly £1500 this year, repair prices are getting ridiculous.
Anything much more and I'd be forced just to leave it on the drive seeing as it comes out of our pocket. Warrrenty you can't keep forever. Having said this I contemplated selling up at one point but realised that other vehicles still cost more or less the same but you get less in return from the vehicle. |

Forgot to mention also that quality of parts etc does not always come into it.
Just because you have it mapped does not mean you have to drive it like a racing car and put it through in-due stress. I think it's good to have the extra power there when you need it but other than that not race it. After all, extra power is nice but doesn't meant to say you have to drive around using it all the time. |

I was told that somebody with a set of bowler wheels need a new diff and supposedly landrover refused because they were modified with different wheels but had to do it as they were a dealer fit was nothing to do with the wheels
Gary I could well be wrong as I don't know but either landrover are doing it or bowler are covering it ? With your historical experience of owning two Defenders before you may be pleasantly surprised at the capability of the 2.2? Yes there are 'quirks' with the much publicised 'rev hang' (do a search) but even a remap does very little (if anything at all) to cure that. Other people find no issues at all. I remapped mine (2.4) before end of warranty and the 'relationship' between me and my dealer at the time was basically that he wasn't really that bothered. I did have warranty work still carried out but it was cosmetic only and had nowt to do with 'running gear.' It may well have been a different scenario had it been clutch, gearbox etc. related issues.
I wouldn't rush into anything performance related until you gauge the characteristics of your new purchase. If it gets built on a Friday forget everything you'll be a very busy chappie.  If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

See the thread '2015MY 110 - Overland Trek edition!' A buyer there swears he has been given the 3 year JLR warranty, in writing, despite 200 bhp. Note they specifically say a JLR warranty not a 3rd party warranty
Surely he is not being conned |
