That looks a rather shiny and valuable Defender in which to be exploring the tipping point? I saw a HT at the weekend with a damaged roof where it had gone over and hit a tree or a rock (or something harder than a defender).

I have found that a couple of agile passengers (counterweights) can be a form of useful insurance when exploring the outer reaches of balance ............

At that point I was not aware I was leaning so much. However, I was driving in low 1st trying to bounce as little as possible.
Had I known I'd be having some people hanging on.
Not quite sure but I think there's still 5 to 10 degrees left before I hit the advertised 40 degrees, no?

The Defender is too shiny to take here without getting scratched in the process, so here is one of the S2A with someone who was a sweet little lad at the time, just getting into LRs. Very Happy

My old Series Two - I had to remove the wing mirrors before doing this lane, and it would not have done my Defender any good at all......

Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated Mr. Green  Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....

A braver man than me Gunga Din... Shocked

I reckon the tipping point may well have been potentially compromised by the loading of your roof rack... Whistle

That's no lean, Strang's Series motor is better though.

Land Rover quoted in their 1984 brochure that the side-slope angle for a 90/110 was 40degrees, now that's a lean! Mind you I can only manage about 30degrees myself before the ar53 puckers big style!

A Land Rover Experience instructor down south (I don't know his name) said "you haven't driven a sideslope till you can touch the ground!

Just remember, if in doubt TURN DOWNHILL!

I tried to measure it today and I come up with (only) 22 degrees... It felt like it was much much more.

Remember going to an off road show many years ago and they deliberately drove a Camel 110 into a ditch at an angle to get it to fall on it's side. Just so they could demonstrate a side recovery.

Not my photos but do demonstrate the angles:

As the series is (only) at 32 degrees and has the extra centrifugal force, but the outcome is unsure, I still favourite Fatman's lean.
Tilting over is a fail so disqualifies for the award of "lean king". Razz
