It was a pretty simple job. Brought a genuine kit and swapped over in situ. The drop arm is/will be a pig to get off, but in all honesty you don't need to remove it. All you need is a block of wood and a bottle jack, coupled with a socket extension bar and a couple of sockets the correct size to push the bush out simple!! I'm sure Les did a guide over on LR4x4 which is step by step. Bit fiddlerly but less than an hour

It was just the ball. Had the same advisory excessive play. IIRC The arm is splined so the only place for play is the ball. The bush is a tight fit, so there should be no wear to the arm. I looked at the conversions, and yes they solve the issue but cost profoundly more ! My usage is mostly road, but some field/ site work. Dose it really need an over engineer solution or Genuine LR replacement for about £40 plus an hour of my time! Worked for 9 years no problem in my view good valve for money

I have the Disco conversion currently and have done he normal swan necks in the past. IMO I like the Disco set-up very much and will be sticking to it. Much easier to replace and I get the TRE's with grease nipples which gets a good dose every now and then!
Previous experiences with the swan necks have always never gone swimmingly! Even with the 'special tool' you can get which was defunct after the first use! |
