...or how Chris got massively carried away building a media system
Warning to the purists - contains scenes of audio and computer hardware - click away now if you don't approve of electronics in Defenders and/or the term 'infotainment' You know when you have a seemingly simple idea that ends up getting bigger than Ben Hur? Well, I decided I was going to put a PC in my Defender, through which I could run navigation (on road and byways), my entire music collection, have internet access, and run gauges from the OBD2 connection. So I built one - plenty of mobile/in-car components for doing just that, so not complicated. 7" double DIN touchscreen to control it all too. So far, so good. But as I'm going to be installing that, why not have a general audio upgrade at the same time? So, after having a chat, with some people who know about such things, ended up adding the following to the BOM: Pioneer DEH-80PRS Head Unit Rainbow 4" Component Speakers for the front Focal 6" Speakers for the rear Hertz 4Ch Amp JL Audio 6" Subwoofer And as we're now running a heavier power requirement, might as well go for uprated batteries. So let's add in a red and yellow top Optima batteries, managed by a CTEK D250S Dual DC-DC charger. Will write up a little more shortly, and get a few better photos, but to keep you going...
