Recommended Tyre Size
Hello all,

Just invested in a full set of Blindos, direct from AR Casting in Italy. (Called the F15 Tech). Stellar service from Elena, BTW. Probably not much use in the UK, but great value for delivery here in the Alps in €s.

Looking to shoe them with Cooper ST Maxxs, but AR Casting will not supply dimensions for the tyre and very hard to get an answer in France as they do not know Blindo.

Any recommendations anyone? Nothing oversized, just traditional.

235/85R 16?
265/75R 16?

Thoughts?

Thanks as always. Monsieur Le Grenadier

I also have Blindo wheels on my Defender and have put 265/75 ST Maxx's on them. They fill the arch nicely without looking out of proportion. I believe the 235/85's I had before did not work on the 110 and were too narrow for the body size. But that's all esthetics in the end!

A friend of mine has BFG KM 255/85 on his 110 and that is the other size I would consider; they give additional clearance for off-roading.

Cheers
Marc

I started out with 235's on the old TD5, but went for 265's when I needed (wanted) new tyres.

Only problem(s) I had were, the 265's reduced turning circle, so I got some wheel spacers. Then the problem was that off-road the mud and s**t went everywhere, up the sides, on the roof, etc.

So on the new truck I have standard 235's and will stick with this size.

I know the 265's with spacers "looked" good - but that was all - no difference in ride, handling, off-road grip, etc.

Thank you Cat81 and DNH. Bow down

I was thinking 265s, and given what Cat says about ST Maxx's specifically, I think that'll be my choice. Without wishing to sound vain (ok it will) I think the larger size will look better against a 110, especially with mine being white and with the mods added to it. I like the slightly squatter stance the 265 creates. I can forsake the extra mud and the fact that the turning circle will have gone from a Royal Navy frigate class to that of a US Navy carrier class....

Cheers for the numbers.... Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier

285/75 x 16 is another popular choice which would work well on Blindos.

Same caveat about dirt - my Defender used to get plastered (and you had to remember to shut the windows off-road) until I fitted Mudstuff Dirt D-Fenders, a reasonably proced and very simple solution.

The turning circle of my 110, after careful adjustment of lock-stops, is significantly better than that of my Disco 2.

Just looked on line. 285/75 is a monster tyre Shocked . Probably great off road, but I have to keep a semblance of normality as I will be ferrying clients about! Maybe when I tackle an exped of some sort in the future... : Question Monsieur Le Grenadier

Marc,

Will I need an offset for the 265/75 option?

It is an as Standard 110 SW (11/2011), currently with OE steel white wheels.

Here you go. Old photo when running 285/75 Kuhmos (I now run KM2s). Boost alloys with 30mm spacers.

Many thanks. Yes look great, a meaty tyre, but best suited for more frequent off-road adventures. Do you know if I need an offset for my Blindo-265/75 configuration? Monsieur Le Grenadier

From memory the Blindo has a 15 offset (you will be wider 17mm per side compared to boost alloy) so you can actually work on the stoppers to decrease turning radius; it will make a notable (and improved) difference.

No problem with fouling the side of the car too much; the Blindo + 265 ST Maxx combination just comes flush with the arches. I can try and post pictures (but later, as I have no access in the office ...)

Grenadier - I am sorry I have not been able to post anything (I leave in the morning with the night, and come back with the night ....).

I will take the pics tomorrow and have them on the thread after that!

No worries, the order has been placed. Cooper ST Maxx 265/75s on Black Blindos mounted on Fuji White 2011 SW. Should be smart.

Many thanks to all of you.... Monsieur Le Grenadier
