2.4 110 power loss?
Hello all.
Have just got my first Defender, 2007 110 double cab xs, 60000mi very bloody nice.
All was fine and dandy for a couple of weeks, then on Tuesday night me and the mrs were on the way to a gig driving on the M25 when it felt like the throttle pedal had stopped working, foot to the floor and nothing but idle revs! sort of feathered the pedal and it came back. It kept happening mainly trying to change from 5th to 6th off gas dip clutch shift back on gas nothing, feather a bit and power back.
So made it to gig, coming back home happened again only this time didn't come back just dropped to idle revs and coasted to a stop, no throttle nothing, also was idling rough. switched off and restarted throttle back!. Pulled away almost died again but did pick up, drove home at 2000 rpm in 5th just holding it steady as coming off then back on the throttle seemed to cause the problem.
Took it back to dealer who test drove it 3 times but couldn't recreate fault, picked it up again 15 mins into drive home happened again but only momentarily shifting from 5th to 6th got home and arranged to take back to dealer next week to check again, no fault lights came on. have been for a short drive today seems ok. Any ideas advice would be much appreciated.

Did the dealer check for any logged DTCs on the engine management system?

My gut instinct says fuel, possibly a faulty Volume Control Valve (VCV) on the fuel pump.

TPS faults should give rise to logged DTCs, however the LP fuel system and VCV are poorly monitored and faults in these don't tend to cause DTCs, but can cause all manner of symptoms including the sort of thing you describe.

I'd be looking for contaminated fuel, blocked filter, and VCV problems. The latter is hard to confirm except by replacing the valve (around £100 for the valve), although you may notice irregularities in the fuel rail pressure if you can get live data to spot these.

I had a contaminated fuel problem (there's a thread on it somewhere here) which killed the VCV and it took me a while to diagnose. The symptoms included a complete loss of power, zero throttle response, rough idle and stalling.

Black Wolf just read through your thread on contaminated fuel, think you could well be right about the volume control valve. What I cant quite get my head round is why it takes a while for the fault to develop i.e why is it worse with engine hot, thanks very much for input will let you know how I get on. Thumbs Up

Perhaps the discussion located in this thread will help you? It helped solve a power loss problem for me...
