2011 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 HT Santorini Black

EGR Valve

I've been aware of the EGR valve on my 2.4 making the usual switch off test noise since it was new in 2011.

However for the last 6 months if the car is started without going for a run, say to move on the drive and then turned off the noise sounds very graunchy and strained. It only seems to do this when cold, but I presume this is a sign of the valve needing cleaning or replacing. Has anybody else noticed this?

Yes, they can be a right pain. A regular one at that.
Personally I'm really thinking of getting a remap and blanking off the damned thing.

2010 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 CSW Zambezi Silver

BAS remapped mine and electronically disabled the EGR. I was a little disconcerted at first as I used to enjoy the 'chukka chukka chukka' cleaning cycle noise but after Pete explained that they were prone to faults and perhaps failure it put my worries to rest.

yeah the Chucka Chucka noise is reassuring that it works, trouble is mine is now like a strangled cat when the engine is cold, however perfect when warmed up.
