Double DIN Fascia Issues
Hi All,

Had a double DIN fitted yesterday with a Pioneer AVIC F60 DAB. Really like the stereo, and upgraded it with Carplay and works well.

However when fitting the kit the car audio guys couldn't get the top of the fascia to fit flush with the dash. It protrudes by about 1cm on drivers side and .8 cm on pass side. They had spent ages on it yesterday and I needed the car this morning so had to collect it like this yesterday. They are currently talking to the fascia supplier to see if they can advise and will have a look at it next week to see what they can do but anyone have any ideas?

Also the clock has stopped working... Has power for dash lights and perm 12V but no clock. Cant see any damage to the clock but doesn't work...

This shows the gap on drivers side at top:

No in moving the dash back wards it seems to be hitting this metal strip:

Now I knew this company had not done a Defender before but they have been around for about 20 years plus and have some very experienced guys in there who worked on my car.

Does anyone have any helpful suggestions as to what the problem is? They said they bent the metal bracket back and out of the way at the back of the unit so that shouldn't be int he way and they had a camera in there and can't see anything blocking it....

Please help Smile

James

Hope you get it fixed James Thumbs Up

Might be worth speaking to Matt at FCX as he has the double din in his demonstrator!

I'll be interested in the outcome as I'm considering the same setup with Apple Carplay for my 110

Hi Bristol 90XS …

We fit a couple of these each week and the finish should be factory. It shouldn't hang out like that .. They just need to put the cables in carefully and most importantly heat up the heater pipes at the back to bend them out of the way slightly .. This gives you enough room for the unit to go in nicely and the front clips to bite without being under so much strain.

Should be like these ones we have done :

As Simon has said above, the Double DIN facia should look factory.

We remove the metal bracket that is welded to the cross bar behind as this causes clearance issues.

It's not a job for the faint hearted, I'm sure I did a write up at some point, do a search on this forum. (Sorry, I'm out and on my iPhone otherwise I'd do it for you)

Also , Take out the metal bracket in the back, . Needless of experience, its a pig of a job if you haven't done one before. I think its better left to companies that Only do Defender rather than car audio over all.

If you need any other help , feel free to email .

Regards
Simon

We are away from base at the moment but as Matt and UT says finish should look factory fit.

We have supplied many of these fascias without major issues. You may/maynot have to extend some of the wiring for the switches but it should look good?

A good audio company should be able to fit one without issue.

As an aside we do not recommend the piano gloss version as we fel they show up scratches too readily in comparison to the Matt black version.

Thanks Matt, Simon and Brendan, appreciate the replies.

@Matt - I was hoping you could have done this earlier in the year when I had my re-map done, but shame you're not doing it any more. They did compliment the full range of leather though and they particularly liked the FCX comp cubby - which now has a third USB socket directly to the back of the stereo!

They said they moved the pipes after heating them, but didn't remove a bracket... Maybe that is it?

Will forward them this post after a day or two!

Any one any ideas on the clock?

@borderterrier - yes they supplied and fitted the fascia. As I said really pleased apart from the fitting of the fascia...

from what i remember when i did mine, you need to take the metal bracket out (its there to centralize/support the back of the single din) as it gets in the way of the back of the double din unit.

I know this is a double din fascia thread, however there seems to be some experienced posters in here

Has anyone had experience installing a single din touch screen yet?

I bought the Sony XAV-AV8000 and I need to source a mounting bracket for each side of the dash unit to lock it in place, but I can only find the double din fascia kits online for the Defender.

I have an MY14 - Hoping someone can point me in the right direction

Thanks in advance
