Glad I read this today
I have the heavy duty rubber mats in mine on top of the standard carpet mats. I know know why the clutch travel is so restricted!! MY2015 110 Urban Truck Expedition Spec 2005 Td5 TwinCab 1998 110 CSW 300tdi |

Hello Howard650
You are right, thanks for posting a 'brave' observation. I have seen this before, at my local independent, where Defenders that have 'Matted Up' (or changed / added Carpet in an attempt to quieten things down) then experienced Gear change issues... and the dots have not been joined up. This can also easily result if an acoustic sound block material is used in the footwell... as well Click image to enlarge I have the standard LR Carpets, then a closed cell neoprene liner, then the Defender Mat and my Clutch Pedal just makes contact when fully depressed. (on its lower edge) but fully activates the clutch before this point. This is definitely something to be aware of, as the clutch wares and the pick up or disengage point slowly changes. I plan a Dynamat Sound Proofing exercise soon, and will have to be careful in this area. On a standard set up, Carpets + LR OEM Mats there shouldn't be an issue... but maybe there is SKIP https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic83242.html Last edited by X4SKP on 11th Oct 2014 12:58pm. The same thing can happen to the throttle / accelerator pedal resulting in a rarely achievable full throttle

Isn't there an adjustable rod in the clutch master-cylinder box that would avoid the need to do this? 2003 Td5 110 Hardtop Now a 2013 110 USW too. |

I have the standard carpet and the OEM Mats and it was enough to restrict the clutch travel. As Captain Slow suggested I just snipped out the corner of the mat. Certainly has made a big difference.
Glad this post seems to have helped! |

Found these pictures on another post regarding the shape of mats fitted.
The first one is an image of the "New" shaped mats with the corner missing which would allow full travel on the clutch:- Click image to enlarge The second image shows the older square type mats as fitted by the dealer in my 2.2 which caused the fouling. Looks like it was a case of the dealer fitting the wrong mats maybe? Click image to enlarge |

A bit off topic but I had a new 2011 Range Rover sport, after the usual haggling with the dealer had a new set of rubber matts, unknown to the dealer the MY2010 mats and earlier must not be fitted to the later models, when the accelerator is pressed hard the mat traps in the peddle a very scary moment. After a hard chat with the dealer I came away with champagne, new matts and discount servicing 2016 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 TDV8

the master cyl rod shouldn't be touched as adjusting can result in clutch not releasing completely causing bearing failure also not getting proper movement of the pedal causing less movement of the piston in the cyl causing clutch drag the pedal needs to be resting on the top stop then cyl rod has to be right out and have a couple of mm free play before pedal pushes the cyl piston it has to be set in the right place and left alone |

Checked my MY2013 and I have the full mat as shown on the left. Mt clutch goes fully to the floor with the mat fitted and the factory fitted sound proofing with no issues.
