Very nice, and a bargain at the price.

If you retain the IW canopy you may have issues with whatever spare wheel carrier you decide to use. I use a Sonic carrier on mine but had to make a very minor addition to it in order to allow the rear flap of the canopy to open. I can provide details if you need them.

I opted for the Sonic carrier on my DC since I reckon it is the best engineered and constructed by a considerable margin (and there are, even now, relatively few designs that are compatible with a tailgate as opposed to door). It also allows a huge amount of adjustment for wheel height and width.

The pivot for the carrier is further inboard from the side of the vehicle than on many designs, in order to pick up on a strong part of the cross-member (rather than the flimsy extremity that some others use).

The result of this is that when the carrier is open, the wheel is still inboard of the profile of the vehicle, and with a full-width flap such as that on an IW top, the flap will foul the wheel as you start to open it.

In order to solve this, you either need to move the wheel further out from the carrier (same effect as fitting a spacer between the wheel and the carrier) so that in the open position it will be fully outside the profile, or need to move the wheel further from the pivot so that in the open position it will be further away from the flap.

After assessing these options, I discounted the former since it would entail spacing the wheel about six inches off the carrier, and, quite apart from the difficult in doing this, I didn't want the vehicle to be six inches longer, and I reckoned it woudl look pretty strange. Therefore I opted for moving the wheel further from the pivot.

I used an offcut of MS bar approx 160mm x 20mm x 300mm fitted between the main carrier and the bracket that holds the wheel as shown in the photo below (the extra bracket is the black horizontal thing with the two M16 bolt heads visible on it). This has the effect of moving the wheel to the left when in the closed position, and the rear when open, and the flap now clears the wheel by about 2 inches.

A normal Sonic carrier in the closed position has the wheel just to the offside of the centreline of the vehicle. After the mod, the wheel is a few inches to the nearside, as shown in the second photo.

My tyres are 285/75; if you have larger diameter tyres, or run with a NATO hitch on the crossmember (which will require the wheel to be higher on the bracket) you may have to increase the offset of the additional bracket. You may even find that since your tow hitch is mounted so low you can drop the wheel down on the carrier instead of movng it left.

Incidentally another side-effect of the full-width rear flap is that it is not feasible to have an access latter to the roofrack, however the Sonic carrier and spare wheel makes an excellent substitute and is amply strong enough to be used for the purpose!

That very nice, the only configuration I would trade our 90 soft top in for, though not sure the wife would agree.

Pic's of winch fitted! even came with all the wiring to the 2nd battery which is yet to be purchased!

The manufacture date on the winch reads July 2011 so its not even a year old and the bumper is brand new unmarked, got it all for £350! Very Happy Bargain of the century considering its over £1600rrp.

winch is in the last few photos in this link :-
