Ultimate footage potential
So i've just spotted this gem online

http://www.airdog.com/

Think of the potential for some wicked footage be it of off roading, sports or anything else you can thing of.
Must admit it's a tad expensive $1500RRP
But at the moment there is a pre order offer making it £780 (probably 800 with shipping)

If only I had a GoPro and not a drift and £800 to spare

Drones.... read my lips, they will become a hotly debated privacy nuisance discussion when all the John Do's are going to start playing with those. Here in the country side we have some not far away neighbours who are flying one of those over our and others houses, and I assure you that it is not pleasant when the drone is hanging still 100m above your garden happily filming away.... Once they become more widely available and used, I see the first person who is getting repeatedly irritated taking out his shotgun already. Laughing You never actually own a Defender. I agree, fantastic footage opportunity but there needs to be an open and balanced discussion on regulating them.

I have friends who are big into railway photography and they keep saying its only a matter of time until one hits a overhead power cable and causes a shutdown. Lest of all what could potentially happen if used around an airport.

As far as a privacy thing goes I have no problem with people using them because 99% of people wont be bothered by anyone else, they will be interested in what they are videoing. However, the potential for it to be miss-used or used for creepier reasons I.e people using them to "peep" into places they shouldn't be (drone in a school?) then it becomes a problem.

However, for every 9 people using it for fun and for what its designed for there will always be the 1 person who is up to mischif so we need to be careful to monitor the subject but not to be to heavy handed or it will spoil the fun for everyone (green lanes anyone?)

I do see where you are coming from with the privacy issues, as you say there is always a minority that will misuse it.

Some people will no doubt buy and use around their local neighborhood.

Personally it would be used almost entirely for sporting activities assuming i could afford it, which i cant (can't think of any time where it wouldn't for me actually)

Primary use would be to film me/my crew whilst at university rowing for coaching points. The ability to adjust the views instantly would give unparallelled video coaching. 360 degree views are so so useful, especially as we don't have a launch is the coach is always on the bank.

On top of that I try to do a reasonable amount of climbing through the year as well as surfing and i also get to go on the odd ski trip with the parents.

So for me the uses are all in non residential areas.

I've recently bought one, a DJI Phantom with the full 3D gimbal for the GoPro.

It's an amazing bit of kit, the stability of the if combined with the gimbal produces amazing video.

I've taken it up to 600mtrs, could't even see it at that height. Furthest I've flown it away is about 600mts as I was starting to loose the video feed back to the screen.

I've also got it linked to the iPad and can program up to 16 waypoints, just click go and it goes and does it thing.

I agree on the misuse potential. It does make a lot of noise, so it would be difficult to do any real sneaky beaky stuff without being noticed and shot out of the sky.

Yes, a modern interpretation of clay pigeon shooting. Laughing
I can assure you first hand that it is not pleasant if such a little drone with a camera is zooming 100m above your land, and then keeps hanging there while shooting/transferring images..... I saw the guy with his remote control standing a few hundred meters away at our street, next time I will go and politely ask him to keep his toys away from our land.
Was quietly hoping that the little drone would accidentally come down into our garden, in which case I am afraid I would have handed it back to him in unrepairable condition, with, oh dear, his poor go pro camera having fallen into our pond between the gold fish and frogs.... That's excellent, I'll have to see if the Drift has that sort of capability.
I know I can link by wifi... but not sure of range. Defender 90 XS TD5 (03 Reg)

This here fell out of the air in the center of Geneva yesterday. A drone of 1 meter diameter, went out of the controllers range, and crashed right in front of cars and pedestrians.... Nobody was hit, pure luck this time.
