Greece 2007 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 USW Keswick Green
No instruments,limp mode- SOLVED.
Yesterday i decided to switch places on my main and aux battery.
All seemed well,didn't even follow the procedure for the AS10 alarm,just switched places,locked-unlocked and started the puma.
Late afternoon left work,wtf??
Terrible trottle response,underfuelling,no boost and NO INSTRUMENTS!!
Thought it would be a blown fuse,checked every possible fuse and relay,nothing!
Plugged the nanocom,it couldn't comunicate with the Ipac and Ems ecu's.
I thought i accidently "fried" an ecu during switching cables etc.
Strange thing that puma started ok..
And eventually i tried the "can bus hard reset" as D3 owners,i disconnected the ground and feed cables from the battery and touched one to each other,reconnected everything and my heart started beating again Bow down Bow down
So when puma acts weird,try this also.
Ps
I am writing this cause i couldn't find anything with similar issues, searching for over an hour on the internet!
Cheers.

You are a legend!

I replaced the second battery on my 2007 3-door Hard Top 110 and afterwards I completely lost all the gauges and LCD on the instrument panel (except for lights). I was sure that I had somehow fried the instruments but I checked through all the relevant fuses and wires, finally giving up.

I searched through defender2.net until late in the evening, after numerous false trails, I finally saw your post. Not completely confident that it would work for me, this morning I disconnected the feed and shorted it to earth and like magic, everything is back to normal.

Thanks for posting your solution!

By "the feed" do you mean the red + cable connecting to the battery?
So you disconnect both the - and the + cables from the battery and then make these two touch?
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Everyone seems to have a different name.

Positive=feed=power=red=+=+ive

Negative=earth=ground=black=-=-ive

I just loosened and took the cable/lead/wire/connector off the positive battery post and touched it to the negative battery post. I didn't bother disconnecting the negative battery cable. Of course at the time I didn't think it was going to fix anything, but then it worked! Thanks again fatman!

I'll definitely keep it up my sleeve for the CANbus system in my wife's Citroen. She loves the fact that I can read and delete codes from her car too.

Exact same problem but all I did was to do the "ignition on/off without cranking" routine 5 times in quick succession.

That "resets" all stored faults.

All perfect there after.
