Hi,
Checked my Diffs today, oil level ok, but the oil colour was greyish. Is this correct or has it been contaminated with water? (bought the truck earlier this year, came serviced and I was told transmission oils were ok) Steve Defender 90 TD5 Station Wagon Discovery 3 HSE BMW 330i Coupe |

My rear ones were greyish too. However, most of it was particles or grease in suspension I think. When they stared to settle, it was more of a typical oily gold.
If it had water in it, it would be like emulsion - completely opaque. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS + New Defender 110 First Edition |

EP oil should be like honey in colour, anything else has some other contaminant in it... my Puma diff oil was black after 2000 miles so being Anal i changed it. I think it was off the inside axle casing. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..
