Fitting KBX grille and some other bits 2012 110 with aircon
So ordered a few bits from Tune My Defender yesterday, was pleasantly surprised to see them turn up on my doorstep in Aberdeen this morning. Glossy mirrors / momo wheel, KBX grille and them wing top bits. I read a few guides on fitting before hand and wasnt expecting much trouble with the fitting.

First i opened the bonnet and took off the 4 small screws at the front with big washers, then the 2 big screws (one either side) at the bottom, the grille came out fairly easily exposing the 2 aircon brackets that were fairly rusted even on my 12k 2012 110 so i covered them up in some copperslip. The next part was the only fiddly bit getting the firtree clips out, i gave them a wiggle from front and back and they felt pretty rock solid so did a bit of browsing looking for tips, some guys prying them out with special tools and others just using a hammer. A hammer is usually my weapon of choice so i gave the back of them a dollop of washing up liquid and a few minutes and then gave them a few gentle knocks and voila out they came.

installed the new grille into the existing mount and then put back together with the headlight surrounds, getting them all back on took a bit off time and alot of the holes didnt seems to line up and needed shoving, tightening, retrying to get all the screws in, the procedure for the grille says loosely tighten the 2 screws nearest to the grille in the headlamp surround first but the screws seemed a mm or 2 too short and wouldnt engage until after i had fastened up the rest and then gave it a shove, i cant help feeling the kit should come with some longer screws for these inner ones.

Anyway maybe its just the standard land rover tolerances Smile,

im well happy with the look and the bits. I fitted the steering wheel too and am really loving the extra space and circumference of the Momo Jet, although i didnt fit the centre 'carbon fibre' ring as i think it look better without - il post some pics tomorrow of the wheel after ive finished off the plasti dipping on the silver trim.

prepping for the plastidip tomorrow! Smile going to try black lettering too

A KBX grill is either a love it or hate it modification the same as chequerplate. I think it enhances the front end significantly and worth spending the little extra for the 'premium grade' with the stainless steel mesh perhaps?

Mal, always amazed when I see a picture of your truck with those gigantic yellow spots... Just thinking about it, if you would ever move over here, your truck would be a nice addition to the Lake Geneva storm warning system, which is currently made up of 22 high powered yellow spot lights all around the lake which will start flashing at specific speeds to alert lake users to various degrees of storm risk. With your truck we could bring the total of those spotlights to 24. Thumbs Up

Euhh, my yellow Hella Comet 550 fog lamps which I know you do not like too much are not powerful enough for this job.

Plasti dip arrived today and gave it a go, i, really impressed with the results, just got to see how durable the finish is. I made a bit of a cock up on one side under the drivers door where some water got onto the drying plasti that i may redo and i ran out of paint at the end so didnt finish it properly but was a good first run. (2 cans used ~£20 worth), im really impressed with the lettering too in matte black and it was really easy to peel round the edges in the complicated bits.

Yeah i think the silver is a bit too much of a contrast and the black is more discreet, im just thinking it may be going OTT on the black though lol, ive got some black 18"s coming next week so im going to need to break it up a bit with something Laughing

as promised some pics of the momo jet wheel too, feels alot nicer to drive with, more elbow room and without that fake airbag lump Smile

i didnt fit the middle carbon ring as i thhink it looks better without, taking the old wheel off was a doddle, i am getting a slight rubbing noise at certain points in the wheels rotation, im not sure if its the boss on the plastic console or what but hoping it goes away. When i tightened the main nut up after the boss went on i did torque it up quite tight, i hope i havent bent something giving the rubbing noise Rolling Eyes
